Where/why/how to buy a MEPM

confused:I have a 2001 GTX Di which I believe will be needing a MEPM replacement. The price new, is enough to gag me and makes me want to re-think Sea-Doo ownership. Nevertheless, this is part of ownership and 'ya just don't throw away a good coat because a button or two come off.
I am with understanding that a new MEPM from Sea-Doo is mind-boggling when it comes to price, some folks say to shop E-Bay or suggest other sources.
I know new is new, but in this case although guaranteed, is quite expensive. I hear E-Bay prices are more realistic, but how do you know the background, where did it come from, are there any guarantees...Are there, per se, factory rebuilds either from Sea-Doo or an independent source...
I guess my question is that I'm looking for the most inexpensive way to obtain a good-woorking MEPM that would be backed (guaranteed) for a reasonable amount of time.
I believe the folks working on my waverunner (an authorized Sea-Doo dealer)
would perform the install and programming of an outsourced part.
Any suggestions or sources would be appreciated.

This is the third visit back to the dealer at which time they tell me of this possibility (they will perform some additional diagnostics before total condemnation).
1st occurence: Went to start ski; no "double beep", no crank, nothing other than fuel injector prime cycle. Red jewel warning light on and "MAINT" displayed on instrument panel. Replaced 15A MPEM fuse; ski would start and run on trailer for one run cycle. If shut off, same "no start condition - 15A fuse would blow. Take to dealer; dealer unable to duplicate condition, but cleans fuel injector harness connector, replaces fuse and returns to me.
2nd occurence: Operating ski for approximately 1/2 hour following return. During wide open throttle run, ski stalls. Same "no start" condition as above. Return ski to dealer. Afer extensive testing and consultation with Sea-Doo, shorted rave valve found. Replace rave valve - ski returned to me.
3rd occurence: Operating ski for approximately one hour following return. Ski rolled over during turning manuever. Ski uprighted in correct rotation. Ski started and ran poorly/would not accelerate. Ski ran for approximately 50 yards and stalled. Same original "no start" condition. Return to dealer - dealer states that driveability condition could be caused by rollover/fuel & oil running into cylinders and fouling plugs. Dealer checks battery - O.K. Removes spark plugs - O.K. No water in cylinders - no spark plug fouling. Now 15a MPEM fuse blow instantaniously when installed. Dealer believes MPEM may have a direct internal short.
Now looking at cost of repair vs. value of ski, etc.
Please help!!!

I believe MPEM stands for multiple purpose electronic module. My understanding is that it controls all engine management systems, i.e. fuel delivery, ignition and ignition timing. It is also responsible for security and starting system. It is basically integrated into every electrical system is some manner.
Although I do not know the exact price, my understanding is that they are quite exorbant (and quite ridiculous, if you ask me).
I hope Sea-Doo is aware that customer occurences like this and their pricing structures greatly influence a consumers' future purchasing decisions. (I know they do mine).

With all that has been said, can anyone recommend a reputable source for used parts of this type - or - a dealer who may be in the competively-priced
market of selling factory OEM parts with warranties...
Any suggestions, resources???
Thanks again...

:agree:.......... chances of it being the mpem with the symptoms you have described are pretty small. Chances are a wire is rubbing, I would bet on a afaulty rave valve, simply because it seems to happen when throttle is applied. Which then can lead to the rectifier lol............welcome to marine electronics. Best bet is to download the manual and test your stator and rectifier.

still going with a bad valve
