Hi, I am new to the forum and looking for some answers. I have a 98 SPX 800 and when I push the trim button, all I receive is a click in the VTS box. I tried a new VTS and that is not the problem. The motor works fine out of the box and tested via battery back and forth, that also works fine. I have read others with similar problems, check fuses in the main box etc. My dealer tells me "good luck". Manually trim it half way and be happy. I would like to fix this as I like the trim. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

switch

try taking the switch apart. COnsidering its exposed to water, may be some corrosion built up inside/around it.

Vts?

What your dealer has said is fairly good advice, since the VTS's seem to have problems on a regular basis. I don't say this lightly, but I say it because that's what many, many members have done to fix the problem.

If your motor works and the switch is not the problem, the only thing left is the module. On the handle, at the VTS switch, you have 3 wires that lead to the module. One wire is common, the other two change the polarity of the motor, to change directions. So, if you push the button and you get a click, you tested the motor out itself with the 12 volts and it works, then the only other piece inbetween is the module.

Has anybody bypassed the VTS and ran from the switch directly to the motor or similar? By the way, thank you for all the advise.......

Good question...?

That would be a good idea if it worked. I can see though, the module is what tells you where the nozzle is and controls the limiter to lock you out when it's all the way up or down. Without that limit, you'd either jam it or break it.

Yea, I could see that happening--oh well, it was a thought. I may give this some more consideration and if I do come up with a repair I will let you know. Thankx again for your help.

Not a problem but I think there might be a way around it. I think you've got a valid idea, just how to go about it.

Let us know how you come out!!!!
