So I am about to freak out on some locals for trying to rape me on re-doing my 96 speedster upholestry. I just got a quote for 1300.00!!!! What are these people smoking around here? I have looked on EBAY to try and find just the fabric pre-molded. I have found where to buy the sheets of vinyl, but why is it so expensive to get this stuff done? I have seen some guys on here get an entire boat done for 3-500.00. I'll even ship all this crap out to get done if I have to! Any ideas? And the 1300.00 was me taking all the old crap off AND buy/bringing him the new vinyl!

wow thats outrageous. I've done a couple different things recently. Take my opinon for what it's worth. I had a 95 and the seat was faded pretty bad so I ordered a nice cover on ebay. I think it was 45.00 plus shipping, comes complete with staples and everything. When I got it, its just a piece of vinyl. I could put it on myself but I doubt it would look nice at all. I went online and searched for vinyl paint. Bought a can of yellow for 10.00. I painted my seat because my fabric was good, just faded. I done several coats and the thing looks great. So far it hasn't pealed or cracked, flaked.. It still looks pretty good after several rides and two months time. I think if your seats torn you may want to check hydroturf covers. I know they are more expensive but I think they are much better quality that the cheapo things on ebay.

Yea its a speedster, thanx for your info though. I just ran to another shop locally and he quoted me 450.00 for him to do everything, plus material, AND for custom stiching on the seats that say Sea Doo Speedster!!! I am going to go with this guy!

$1300… that’s about the going rate. I know it sukx… but until you do one of the sport boats yourself… you wouldn’t understand.

I did my boat… and it took close to 4 hours to stretch the vinyl over the bottom part of the rear seat, and get it stapled on. Now… if you are a shop… you see the heavy contours, and will know the time it takes.

In my seats… I have about $150 into doing them. BUT… I bet I have over 40 Hr of labor!! Just to strip the old covers off probably took 10 hrs. (to do it right, and dig out all the old staples)

There is a member on this BBS that will sell you a complete kit for around $400. (or less depending what you want) He does very good work, and will get you your vinyl quickly. (I’ll look up his name) He also sells on eBay.

that is crazy; on our old challenger 1800 we had the back bench (seat and back) and it also need some foam added and i think it cost somewhere between 300-400; keep looking

Yea I found a company like 10 min away from my work call Perfect Stitch, the guy has been in business for 38 yrs and he is charging me 400.00 and that included custom embrordery for the passenger and driver seat that say speedster sea doo on them just like from factory but stitched instead of whatever sea doo used. I can't wait I am dropping them off today and he gave me about a week turn around if not faster. I offered to prep them for him like take all the staples out and take the rivits out of the 3 seater bottom seat but he said he'd do it all! Ill post up pics of the after when I get them back. I'll see if I can snap off a few before I drop them off.

Post up his address and contact info! I'm in MA and wouldn't mind finding out how far of a drive ti would be to being him my seats and have him do the work. Does that include the arm rests as well? I have an 03 Sportster so I would want the back seat & bench & arm rests, front seat & backrest, and spotter seat and back rest.

His name is John, he is the owner. Whoever is interested just tell him you got his info from Kevin on seadoo forums. I told him that if there are some locals they he may get some more business. But I will take some pics when I go out to lunch today of the old seats and then update you with the new ones when he finishes them.

Here are some pics, mind you the boat has since been preasure washed and scrubbed down and looks like a brand new boat! I will post pix up after they get done and the cleaned up boat.

The 400.00 INCLUDES everything being reupholstered, and custom stitching in purple of the Speedster Sea Doo that the factory originally has stamped on the backrests of the seats. And thats him tearing them down, top of the line vinyl, and replacing all the black plastic tabs that hold the cushons in the boat.

Guys I didnt have time yesterday to post up picks but all I can say is WOW. This guy does amazing work!!!!! The stitching is hand stitched, and the best part of the hole thing is he did the entire seats with without a single seam! So now I don't ever have to worry about the seats tearing!!!! He charged me 450.00 total! Now I must say that he said he would prolly charge a little bit more due to the time he put in but he said not much then 50-75 more. Plus if you didnt want stitching it would even be cheaper. But here are a couple pix of them when I picked them up. I will post up the installed pix as soon as I get them in the boat. The pix don't do justice, plus they are just phone pix, but they are amazing!

Wow!

Amazing seats. That is some great work that guy does for sure. With this kind of advertisement I'm sure he'll get some decent business.

Looks great! I was searching for options to get my seat done and that guy is on the other side of the bridge where I live which is convenient. My fiance did a fantastic stitch job on the two tears I had for which I can live with for now until the funds become available to totally do new.

Yea I told him I would put his info out there because he is the only person I know of that could do this kind of work. He does it all not just boats, custom cars, motorcycles, you name it he can do it. Anything that involves stitching! Anyways guys I will post up the install pics as soon as I get them in. I will be working on them tonight, I just hope they go in easier then they were to take out....lol.

Looks kick butt!!!!!! LOVE the speedster embroiding....I would have left out the SEADOO underneath but a nice look no doubt!!!

Craig

Did you say all that cost was $400?????? I'm beside myself!

Craig

Yea the embroydering was an extra 77.xx. The guy quoted me 400.00, and he said he was only going to charge me an extra 50.00 for the embroydering, so he even ate the extra 23.00. I am happy to say the least with how this turned out. I hope there are several people on here that can benefit from John's trade. I was just impressed how he did everything with no seams, it will last twice as long as factory, not to mention I keep it covered and in the garage.

Alright guys I got the seats installed lastnight and I must say it went a hell of alot smoother then taking them out. These aren't the best pics cause they are from my blackberry but they are decent. I also just ordered hydro turf in the purple marble color. They said it will be about 2 weeks till it shows up so thats what I am waiting on now. I am leaving work early tomorrow and taking it out to the river to see if I figured out the cavitation issue. I replaced both wear rings, but I think I may need a new impeller but I won't know till I take her out.

It has to be because thats what I looked like trying to reach the two bolts that are on the front most part of the seats!!! What a PITA!
