Trailer question

Guys,

I have the Seadoo/Karavan trailer under my Utopia 205.

This trailer is equipped with the back-up brake lock-out solenoid. In other words when you put the tow vehicle in reverse its supposed to prevent the disc brakes on the trailer from actuating.

I have my tow vehicle set up with the 5-wire plug to match the trailer. I also personally tapped into the back-up lights in the truck and verified that when in reverse I have the 12Vdc on the trailer side of the connector on the blue wire.

My problem is I never hear a "Click" when putting tow vehicle in reverse like the manual states and the brakes are engaging in reverse and its a real problem.

Questions:

1) Is this warranted through Seadoo, Karavan or the coupler company?

2) Anybody have similar experience?

Studying the brake actuator on my trailer it appears the only way to get to the Solenoid is by removing the tongue assembly off the trailer. Looks like a pain.

take a picture of the brake actuator so I can ID it .
I have built many a trailer.
some require a fair amount of current.
Some go to ground .
Ig yours goes to ground , you will need a relay. but I need to ID it

Warranty?...

Craig, you just bought this thing. I'd find out from the dealer it came from. If you bought the boat and trailer at the same place, I'd take it to them.

I'd not mess with anything until they have completly satisfied me that it was in good mechanical condition.

As Seadoopilot suggested, maybe it's just like he said, it needs more amps than what your blue wire is putting out. But, to me, it would seem that this is the normal source for most hook-ups to vehicles.

I really know nothing about trailers, so maybe Seadoopilot could at least give you some ideas..........but I think I'd make the dealership fix it.

Guys,

You may remember, I bought the boat from Smith in NC. I dont intend on working on it myself if its covered under warranty. Who warranties it? Seadoo? karavan?

Seadoosnipe is correct , it does not mater who warranties it , the dealer is who you have to deal with . They were responsible for the setting up of it .
Atleast call them and tell them it is not working correctly.

Warranty transfer?

Yeah, I was going to mention that because I knew it wasn't feasible to haul it all the way back to N.C. ......but, I thought you might have gotten a warranty transfer.

You are suppose to be able to do that. You might look into it. Warranty work is through Seadoo, not the dealership itself.

You could go to Barny's in St Petes for warranty work. I got a owners booklet with parts breakdown and specs for the trailer when I bought it with my seadoo. Your trailer should have a small "key" that is inserted in the trailer actuator area on the trailer to prevent it from engaging the brakes when in reverse. I don't use the blue electrical wire on the flat 5 plug...I'm a Draw-Tite hitch dealer.

This is only valid for Karavan Trailers with disc brakes correct? I have the karavan with the drums and have never had this issue of backing up.

adapter?

I have a trailer with the reverse solenoid and I needed an adaptor so the brakes would release in reverse.

I think, i agree with karl....dont think these boats are heavy enough, that you'll need a brake system/system to use, unless your vehicle, may not be upto par...

E-mailed with Karavan and they hooked me up with the actuator company who is taking care of the issue. They located a local shop that will replace the brake actuator. Hope to have this completed by this weekend.
