Towing with lowered truck

So I have an .02 Dodge Ram 1500 w/ a McGaughy's 2/4 drop kit installed. I dont want to hear the BS about why I dropped it; and so on. Just some advice on towing. Since my truck rides lower i will have to flip the ball mount upside down to give me the rise I need to level out the trailer.

How do I determine the correct amount of rise i will need?

Also, can THIS mount be flipped? Is it still safe?

Measure the height of the trailer when sitting level and then compare that to the height of the hitch on the truck to find the difference. The ball mount you have the link for should be fine upside down, as long as your tongue weight is within the specs for it a hitch shouldn't care what it's whats up or down.

I grew up in SoCal... so I like the looks of a lowered truck. But living in PA... it's not advised with the snow and pot holes.

Towing with that is not a big deal... as above... just measure your hitch to the level trailer... and buy a receiver that has the proper rise. (not a big deal)

Now... as far as the adjustable receiver... I don't like them for a raise. If it slips, it's going to crush your bumper. I would get a welded, std reciver.

Finally... depending on how the drop in the rear was done... and how good the springs actually are. You may want to put air shocks in the back. (not air bags) They are cheap, and you can pump them up to support the extra weight.

I kinda figured along those lines as far as the measuring goes, I just wasnt 100% sure. Theres a Tractor Supply near where the skis are, so I can be certain of the one I need before I waste my money.

And as far as the drop. Its a 2/4 with a flip kit in the rear. I bottoms out when I hit pot holes. So I really think I may need some sort of air assist. McGaughy's has a kit that will work for my setup. And since I will be going lower (if I dont sale the truck). The C-notch that is included will be needed, if I want to go any lower.

Anderson Mfg. Rapid Hitch

Check out the "rapid hitch" from anderson mfg. I've got one for my tow rig, and lent it to a buddy to tow (he has a lowered truck). Just put the receiver in "upside down" and then you can get your tongue height were you need it. They're built for lift kits, but when reciever is flipped around works the same for lowered trucks. just in reverse.

Great quality and extremely versatile if you have mulitple trailers with different tongue heights.

Yeah, Ive been looking at those receivers for some time now. At my previous job, the company had them installed, and they were a breeze to work with. I just didnt know that they were so expensive.

Im going to get a cheaper alternative for now. And once I get the skis up and running, and the trailer wired up. Ill drop the change on the rapid hitch.
