I have a 1996 seadoo sportster that I am in the process of building a motor for (717). I bought the boat with a bad top end and have never driven one b4Just wondering if anyone knows about how fast this boat will go. Im hoping high 30s possibly 40mph. I have a 2008 RXP-X and im sure this thing is going to be alot slower...If anyone knows i would appreciate your input...and then i can see how much weight i need to lose for next summer to get this boat on plain!!! hah thanks, Bobby

you'll see your high 30's low 40's speed. From what i've read, install a skat-trak 14.5/22.5 swirl, and it makes a world of difference.

I'll one up you....

how about 47mph with a shaved head (otherwise stock) 2 adults, and a 16-21 swirl Skat-Trak.

Thats was with my GPS.

If I have 3 adults, and 2 little kids (2 and 3 years old on the laps of their folks) and I have my Bimini top on... I can still get up to 40~41... but it doesn't accelerate as well.

:hurray:  :)

Wow thats pretty good...about how much did it run you to shave the heads? and how reliable is it? also when doing some research on those impellers i noticed there are a few different ones (skat-trak) ...how do you choose which one best fits our boat.? thanks, Bobby

Well... mine was purely by accident. The recommended impeller is 15-20 swirl for the 96 sportster... but I found a 16-21 swirl new old stock for $50. It was labeled for an XP, but the 140mm pump is the same in all the seadoo products, (more or less) so I knew it would fit. And... even though it was a little steeper than the recomended... I figured for the price... what could I loose. (the factory impeller was beat)

Because of the slightly higher pitch, it helps with the top-end, and since the Skat-Trak "Swirl" series is known to be one of the best "out of the hole" impellers... I don't have any issues with cavatation.

Even with the taller pitch, I don't have any problems with pulling a wake boarder, but I can feel it with 2 people on a tube. (it will start to bog on a sharp turn) If you are going to do a lot of towing, get a 15-20... if you are going to do more long rides... get the 16-21. it will help with gas mileage.

As far as the head milling.... Well... it was free. (my shop)
