So... am I the only one here who's had perfectly logical, legal title transfers go to hell because of the idiotic bureaucratic bull shit that the gov't makes you go through, because they don't live in the 'real' world?

Newest one:

Bought a Ski + trailer from NJ.
No trailer title. I emailed the guy, who tried to get one from NJ. They don't title trailers. Just register them. Ok. no problem.

Call PENN DOT (PA)... they don't have a clue what to do.

1st place: "we can't do it w/out a title"
PennDot: needs it to say "transferable"? on the registration?

can anyone here give me some pointers? the whole thing is beyond retarded. I want a title, to register, and get a plate on the stupid thing, and be nice and legal, but it would be simpler to just throw another plate on it... wouldn't it?

Why do they make it so hard? I have the item, a bill of sale, it's not rocket science here.

Well , up here you can build your own trailer and get a license plate for it without much problem. Not sure what the procedure is down there. Maybe you need to debadge and rebuild that trailer yourself.

Called NJ DMV, and they were a bit more helpful:

1. need actual registration card
2. need notarized bill of sale.

lol

yea doc, that thought crossed my mind... the VIN on these is just a sticker...
but I'll try it there way first...

I just go to the DMV and tell them I have a home built trailer that is under 500lbs. That way they dont need a inspection or a weight slip.

MN is completely retarded. A jetski can be registered with or w/o a title, but a $200 that had a title cannot be transferred w/o said title.

I usually go the homemade trailer route.

PA says once it has a title, always a title for $40?

$200 is a joke when some ski's aren't worth $200 if they are broke!

Its super frustrating when your trying to be legit .. they just make it such a PITA! Maybe go the debaging route? Let us know how you make out. There's actually a popular show up here about the Philly/detroit DMV called Parking Warz .... Wow!! Is about all I gotta say about that system :ack:.

Here in KY, boat trailers don't require license plates, so registration is optional, most people including myself don't register boat trailers.

I've seen parking wars. It's a sad world we live in when people can barely afford things they need like a car, then it costs them hundreds to get there car back... sometimes that's more than the car is worth.

Then I saw one where another state said it was invalid, and it wasn't, but because the state to state systems suck, they couldn't release the car. the whole thing is BS laws enacted by people who make $200,000 / year and don't give a $hit about the common person just trying to get through life.

as for me, I have the original NJ registration and a notarized bill of sale, and hopefully that will appease the PennDOT Gods...

by which I mean the ones that barely speak English and smell like they crashed into then rolled around the perfume section at Macy's for a week strait.

You might try going to a notary or to AAA, they probably deal with these types of things all the time and can get it done for you vs some moron on the other end of the phone in Harrisburg.

They misspelled my name on my drivers license once and wanted me to pay a fee for them to fix their mistake. yeah, I'll get right on sending that fee to you...

Call one of those Car donation you see on tv in your area. They have people that work for them that all they handle is the titles. Also here in texas we have some companies that can help with titles...call salvage yards they work with them all the time. I used one for my 68 bug that did not have a title. We also donated a broken down car and the donation company helped us with the title.

It is pretty easy to get a trailer plate up here in Alberta. This is like Texas North when it comes to both bitumen and too much government.
Main difference is the bitumen is called "Oye Ill" up here and it is called "AWL" down in Texas. If Obama approves the pipeline it will go in
"Oye Ill" and come out "Awl" for no extra charge. But I digress - when I went to register my trailer for plates last year at the privately owned and operated Alberta registry, the nice young lady told me I already had a trailer registered, so there is just a $5 charge for another plate if mine is lost. It turns out I had a travel trailer which I sold back in 1984 ish. Plates are perpetual and it doesn't matter which trailer they go on - which I forgot. No doubt I have the old plates in the stack I have in the garage, but for 5 bucks what the heck, I now have a spanking new plate to match my new trailer.

Here in lovely f'ing Toronto i bought my bowrider and trailer in Sept 2009...went down to service canada and they registered boat and trailer, no charge.
then went to ministry of transportation and payed 8% tax on the trailer, got the owernership paper and also a licence plate

1 month ago i get a letter from Revenue Canada saying that they know i have a boat (ok no problem with that) but get this...pay the tax now (8%) or prove that i payed it.
Well **** them i ain't paying jack! i sent the letter back to them and said i payed the tax (8%) to ministry of transportation with the trailer. let them take that and shove it!!!

my rule is that if they screw with you, which they have done for my cars i will then screw with them big time!

also i am selling my bowrider this coming season and the trailer will go so i will use that plate and stick it on my jetski trailer that i will have to buy once the boat is gone. I just bought this jetski so no trailer yet but i dont care, i am not going to register that trailer i buy as i will just slap that plate on it and carry my ownership...there is no way they will even know i did that. if there is a serial no. on the one i get, i will take it out.

when a buddy of mine had that problem ... he registered his trailer as homemade. no need for a title or registration
