Ok I have a 2000 XP with 951 engine, I just replaced the starter bendix this last winter, while i had the engine out I converted to pre-mix. Last week I started getting the ski ready for the water, I cranked it out of the water with the water hose connected, and let it idle for about 3 mins.. though it took SEVERAL tries to get it started. I take it out to the lake this weekend and try and try, but it would not run, I had a brand new battery in, the engine would turn over but the engine would not stay idling. I guess I tried too long now the starter sounds funny again... :(

I guess the first question is...why wouldn't it idle?? and second will have to replace the starter drive again? It wasn't spinning free like last time, it's more of a grinding sound.

I didn't mess with the carbs, but I thought that may be the problem, I didn't want to go back in the engine though. What all should I do to the carbs??

take them off the motor and go thru them, while your in there, might as well, check the starter and its bendix.

Well, I checked the starter and I need a new one, almost all the teeth were ground off of the shaft. I felt in the hole where the starter came from and ran my fingers across the bendix, the teeth feel like they're still in good condition...but I wonder if I need to still take the flywheel off just to make sure?? And also the carb seems to be getting fuel but in the sight glass filter it doesn't look like premixed fuel. I disconnected all the lines and pulled on the throttle it sprayed fuel out of one jet but not the other one.
I also noticed some of the fuel nipples had gunk built up in them. What would the proper way to clean the carbs out?? I have a parts washer up here at work....

Rebuild the carbs with genuine Mikuni rebuild kits, pull the stator cover and clean all the metal shavings out. Then, figure out why it happened in the first place as it is very unusual to have the teeth on the starter grind down.

Ok I pulled the stator cover off again, there is alot of metal shavings, I found out that part# 290965641 sensor was ground down as well. It seems that the magneto flywheel was hitting the sensor and was grinding the sensor's nipple almost flat.... Ok I bought a new starter, going to get a carb rebuild kit, probably a new starter drive assembly though it wasn't hurt too bad,...what about this sensor or the stator??? Should i get those too?

Get as much of those metal shavings out as you can.

Don't be scared of the carb rebuilds. These are pretty simple carbs. Just buy genuine Mikuni kits, even if they are more expensive. It will be worth it in the end.

Do one at a time, and just follow the directions. Takes about an hour each, first time.
