So I pulled out the dinosaur today to see if I can finally get it going again and wet plugs kept stopping me getting it going.
So after heating head up and plugs and constant removal to dry them I got it going. But thrn I see this when I return with new plugs.
I think it's 2stroke oil.
Wtf.
Help please guys.

Yup,

Once if clears out all the excess you should be okay. May smoke a little more than normal too.

Get compression numbers to make sure your working with healthy motor.

Nope.
But check compression. Healthy motor is 150.
Anything under 125 may not run right in the water with a load.

The real issue is,,,, the crank seal.

When the ski sits for a long time the oil is bypassing the crank seal and literally filling the motor up.

It really wont hurt anything. Most pinch the oil line at the tank when in storage. If you do that, I STRONGLY recommend that you hand your lanyard on the clamp so you don't accidentally start the ski without removing the clamp firsts.

The fix is pretty major. Normally need a new crank but at the minimum you need to pull the engine and do a pretty major tear down.

Had the same problem on a 95 xp 720, scared me too, but still ran like a champ. Depending on how long it sits it can be a bear to start. Pinching that line helps.

Personally I've never had it happen, but learning from the experience of others I always pinch the oil supply line when I put the ski's up for winter storage.

my first skis were 92 580's Then I picked up a 1990 non running for parts. PO said it hadn't been run in years. It was full of oil on the PTO side. Spitting oil everywhere when I turned it over for the first time with no plugs installed. I figured it was going to be a serious leaker. Got it running & smoked out the neighbors soon after. Ran it for the summer & put it away with a 1/4 tank of injection oil. I thought for sure it would all be in the crankcase come spring as I didn't pinch off anything. To my surprise, it only smoked just a small amount & that was it! So yes, the crank seal was leaking. But, it was so slow it took a few years to amount to anything..

Yup all these guys are right. As long as your not an environmentalist...lol. My trick is to crack the oil cap to keep pressure from building.

If it continually happens...you are polluting alot. But if you run a tank of gas thru it, let it sit a few weeks and it fires up w/o a big puddle...it was just from sitting so long.

Yea, there is always that. Might want to run it on the trailer after it sits a long period of time. Otherwise the EPA might be following you from the dock with skimmers & a barrier net

It does help understand a little why there has been a push for 4 strokes on water tho......
