I ordered off Ebay 2 Seadoo boarding steps, can anyone tell me what type of screws I will need to install these on the back of my 2 ski's? The sellers said no hardware included... Are these self tapping stainless or bolt through?

no idea... but if they are new... then I would hope the come with hardware. The weight of someone climbing up the back of a ski is going to require a backing plate, and bolts that go though the hull. If you try to install it with self tapping screws... they will rip out of the fiberglass.

Great... yes there were no backing plates with them..will email seller now to find out the scoop... one person said self tapping stainless screws to me but I thought a 6'2 240 lb person laying that much weight on it? My kids weigh less but I do ride them also....when they both run....lol...

On my big Polaris... there was a step from the factory, and when I'm standing on it... I'm only shin deep in the water... so it's supporting 95% of my body weight. (240#) plus, the weight of my kid (50#) when getting back on.

I need to get under the seat of that ski later tonight. I'll take a peek at the mounts. BUT... since it was a factory installed step... I think there were threaded inserts in the hull.

I just received, haven't installed an Aqua Step on my 96GTI, it came with 6ea. 1-1/2" stainless self tapping screws, not sure about the diameter but the instructions say to use a 3/16" drill bit and to use a drill stop and drill no deeper hole than the length of the screw. So I am assuming that the hull is 1-1/2" thick where the step mounts. My kit also includes 6 nylon washers that goes between the bracket and the screws. It also includes 2 angles plastic blocks (shims0 to allow for the slant of the hull where the step mounts.

Aqua Step is the OEM manufacturer for SeaDoo.

To confuse you further the instructions also say that your kit could come with "AVK" inserts, mine didn't.

From your Avatar pic. I'm thinking you have about 95's GTS which I think is the same hull as mine, so it should be the same hardware as I received.

AquaStep website is www.aquaperformance.com Phone no. 951-940-9425.

Here's the instructions: http://www.aquaperformance.com/apimages/ap_pdfs/apwatercraft_instructions.pdf

Let me know how you come out if you need the instruction sheet let me know. You can get the screws at Lowes but you will need the plastic shims for a good installation. Check and see if it says AquaStep on one of the brackets.

OK, thanks.... My boys called me to say a box came in the mail, of course they opened it up as I was talking to them and told them it should be their steps.... Now on the phone its "can't you come home now and fix the broken one and install the ladders tonight".... have to love it...we went from 4 wheeler & dirt bikes to Jetski's....they love these things so much and the forum has helped out on a few things I had no clue about.... Thanks again....

My '97 has an Aqua step on it. dont know if it was factory installed or not. I just went out and looked and I don't see or feel a backing plate inside the hull. I also clicked on that link to their website you posted Lou and watched the video that started up. I watched that girl climb out of the water 12 times just to make sure I got it right :) The foam on my step is just starting to crack and deteriorate. anybody know of anything I can use to preserve it as long as possible? going to really look like crap once that foam start breaking off.

Jake,

I just finished installing the aqua step, what a b***ch to install, the screws just go through the hull must be a least 1" thick down there. As they say here in KY them screws they aint'a commin out. Had to use a big ass phillips bit with a socket to get them in.

You can buy the rubber tubing from aquaperformance 12.00 I think.

Say hi to sis.

Pics?

I checked my Polaris, and it has threaded inserts. So... no help there.

Here's 3 pics. I just took note the screw in the bottom of the bracket almost impossible to get to.
