starter issue

hey guys, another problem, when i was trying to start after replacing the jet pump and starting for the first time in a few weeks, the starter was a little slow. then eventually, it just heard one click when i hit the start button and i have already done a few things. 1. battery is fully charged. 2. there is always 12 volts of power from the battery to the far side of the solenoid, but the starter side of the solenoid only gets power when i press the starter. i have been reading multiple things but a lot of them say different things, but im leaning towards the starter since the solenoid seems to me to be doing its job. any help would be very appreciated. Thanks guys.

Sounds like it could be your battery. I would suggest taking it to your local auto parts store and have it load tested.

the battery is brand new, only around a month old

Oh, ok. I just seen you mention 12v and they seemed a little low. What are the volts of the battery at rest, and volts while cranking?

its 12.87 when just sitting to the solenoid part connected to the battery, and the when trying to start the wire connected to the starter gets 12.87 volts

also if it helps when putting the key in it makes no noise

Pretty sure 12.87 is good, what’s it go down to on the battery when you press the start button?

when i hit the start button, i did not hold it for long but it did not really go down

Check voltage right at the starter if you can reach it

ok, one part i will say is when i was cranking it before it went it was smoking a tiny bit after which i did not notice until it just started to click. but i will test the voltage if i can reach it tomorrow, but does it smoking tell you anything

Probably time for a new starter
