Hi

I have a 2006 speedster 200 430hp.

I have lost power in the left engine, it would rev quickly to 7000 with a bad viabration and noise but would not push the boat.I have taken the nozzel off and can see the impellar and it looks fine no dings,it looks fine on the intake side as well,so i started it and the impellar spins ok reved it up and there dose not seem to be any viabration, would the viabration only happen if its in the water? should i take the pump out even if there is nothing jammed in there?
or could somthing that was weged in the impellar have come free and fallen out on the 5hr drive home?
Not sure on the next move any advise would be great.

Normally, high RPM's, vibration, and no thrust is a pump problem.

I would pull the pump, and driveshaft, and make sure nothing is bent. Also, while you have it apart, replace the carbon seal.

Yeah that sounds like a pump problem. That is exactly what it feels like when you get something stuck in the intake or impeller. I had a buddy who got something in his ski like that and he couldnt see it while at the lake even with the ski out of the water. He drove back home and then couldnt find anything. Took it all apart and still nothing. Put it all back together and back to the lake and it was fine. So all we could figure is something fell out on the 2 hour drive home. you may get lucky.

Thanks guys, i am going to drop the boat in today and cross my fingers.
If the problem is still there i will have to deside weather to take it to a boat shop or give it a go myself.

I put the boat in and still the bad vibration under power , only when the revs com up to around 4000. Fells like a slipping clutch in a car.
I have never worked on a jet boat before so its a little scary pulling it apart, i have only take the boat out twice and now this problem has crippled it.
If i pull the pump off what should i be looking for? i could see no damage to the impeller or wear ring.

I have pulled the pump of and found a stick wedged in the blade of the impeller the impeller would still spin the stick would just go round with it.
I dont think this would cause the bad vibration?
I started the engine and put it in forward and the shaft has a bit of a wobble
should the shaft spin nice and straight with no wobble at all?
I would like to take the shaft out to check it is straight, how does it come out is there a seal or clip to hold it in? there is a bit of back and forward movement. If there is a seal or clip is it inside the hull or at the rear of the boat?
I tried to upload a pic but the upload failed twice.:banghead:

First...

DO NOT RUN THE ENGINE WITH THE PUMP OUT, AND THE DRIVE SHAFT IN THE ENGINE !!!!!!!

The drive shaft is not supported, and it could be thrown out, causing damage to the hull, the shaft, and the anyone close to it. (not safe)

OK... with that said... it's going to wobble because it's not supported. Seadoo uses a floating drive shaft. THe only thing that holds it in place is the PTO of the engine, and the impeller.

At this point, you MUST remove the drive shaft, because the carbon seal is going to be damaged. Yes, there is a clip holing it in. You will need to put your pump back on (loosely) to be able to push on the stainless ring of the seal. When you push that towards the transom of the boat/ski, you will see the clip. Pop it off... and the drive shaft will slide out. (once the pump is off)

OK... yes, that stick will cause the vibration, and lack of thrust. In a jet pump... you are creating pressure inside the pump housing. When you have something stuck in the impeller, first, you are out of balance... second, you create cavitation. This happens because you give places for the water to boil on the vacuum side of the impeller. Because you have air in the pump... you loose thrust... and because you have one blade of the impeller unloaded... it makes BAD vibration.

If you wouldn't have started the boat with the pump out... all you would have needed to do is remove the stick, and put the pump back on. Now... the carbon seal needs to be replaced. it may be ok... but I wouldn't waste the time in putting it back together, and going to the water, just to find out it's leaking.

FYI... if it's leaking... most likely, it won't leak water, into the boat... it will leak air into the pump, and you will have the same problem you have now.

Here's a couple pics. Your boat is a little diffent, but it should be close enough to figure it out.

Thank you for the schooling, i have removed the stick and put the pump back in.It is very tight inside the engine bay and removing the carbon seal and shaft looked like a difficult fix for me, so i put it in the water and gave her a run and all is good.Looks like i got out of this one easy!
Now i just need to find the fuse panel as i have no lights or horn working.
Would there be 2 fuse boxes? in the engine bay behind the rear seat small box mounted on a metal plate one on each side of the boat?

How does the wear ring look? some slight grooves not to deep.

glad you found the problem!! I had a similar issue on my sportster in October, was out all day in it and came in close to a public beach area....when we wanted to leave we had the same bad vibration and no power!! Luckily we were right by our marina so I pulled out the boat and found a plastic kite handle stuck in the pump area just behind the impeller, took it out and dropped the boat back into the water....everything was fine!!

I believe there is another fuse panel under the driver's hood behind the gauge panel.
