After chasing my tail with this project it still is not running correctly.

*I have replace the gray lines
*Cleaned the fuel selector
*Cleaned the filter under the dash (on top of the oil tank)
*Cleaned the small filter in the carb
*Cleaned the gunk in the barbs of the carb
*Drained and replaced old two-stroke oil with original SEADOO oil
*Replaced the original White oil injection lines
*Primed the oil in the new lines
*Checked the compression (135 both cylinders)
*Both plugs are dry and have a slight smell of gas and have a Brown shade to them (Can post pictures if necessary)

In a previous post I was leaking oil from one of the oil injector lines that cause one cylinder to run lean. I replaced the oil lines and fixed that issue.

This is the "comes and goes issue"

We were running the ski for about 3 hours today with about 5 minute driver brakes in between. For the first 1 1/2 hours the ski ran really good then towards the last 1/2 hour the ski died when applying any throttle over 3/4 to full. It would start right back up after it died and sometimes the idle would be a little high then a blip of the throttle and it went back down to normal. The ski does not hesitate at all when going from idle to WOT but after a few seconds it will die to the point it shuts off. You can run the ski at 1/2 throttle and it runs fine, just slow as h@## and not much fun.

I'm looking for opinions here. I'm assuming that a high speed jet is clogged so I was thinking of rebuilding the carburetor but I'm not sure if buying the rebuild kit, pop off tester, tuning and the skill level required is worth it. Should I save some time, trial and error and have someone else (Dr. Honda) do it and be done with it?

sometime she runs and sometimes she don't....but there ain't nothin wrong with the radio....

I'm not sure about the carbs., I'm thinking if the carbs. were the problem you would have it all the time.

It's possible it could be the voltage regulator/rectifier, try disconnecting the red wire, if your problem clears up replace the voltage reg/rectifier.

Ha ha, you got it Lou! ....but there ain't nothing wrong with the radio....

Where can I find this elusive Red wire, in the covered brain box? I just pulled the ski back out of the water last night before I posted, so the ski is back in the garage. I was going to a least take the carb off today and see what options/opinions everyone had, then go from there.

EDIT: are all the voltage rectifiers the same for the same year? Will a XP work in the SPI or does it have to be an exact year, make model?

You said you cleaned the small filter in the carb but did you completely clean the carb?
You can easily DIY. Make sure to get OEM mikuni kit. They will have a red dot on the diaphragm.
The non OEM kits do not work as good.

Otherwise ship it to DR. His rebuild are cheaper than anyone and done right every time.

Well in my haste I removed the carb and disassembled it again. Checking for no blockages and just for S&G I check the filer in the carb. It was just about completely black and clogged with crud, again. I was worse the the first time I cleaned it. I never installed another inline filter to the carb, I was relying on the factory on under the dash and once I found what I did in the carb it too had lots of crud in it.

So apparently there is lots of crud in the tank, I never cleaned that out when I got the ski I just added some new go-go juice to mix with the old stuff.

Right after I filled the tank when the problems started. The local SEADOO dealer has the rebuilt kit in stock ($48.00) and it is the OEM Mikuni kit.

Thanks for the help.

yup,
That would do it.

Just add the inline fuel filter and she be good to go after a few tanks!

Thats about right for OEM kit but no need for that yet.

Try the inline filter and report back
Problem should fix itself........

I'll drop it back in the water tomorrow evening and see what happens. Worst case is I can still try Lou's suggestion if the problem is still there.

The problem is still there even after cleaning the carb filter and gas filters again.

Before I pulled it out I also tried Lou's suggestion about pulling the red wire on the regulator. Pulling the red wire (in my mind) seemed to help a bit maybe, I dunno? It felt like the ski fell off a bit but not as much as the engine dieing and I had to restart it. At WOT I can feel it die a bit for a 1/2 to 1 sec if I keep the throttle wide open it will pick back up and keep truckin'.

At 3/4 throttle it is fine, ran it for 15 minutes not one issue.

So at this point I'll try rebuilding the carb

Was the HS closed?

Also when you take carb apart check size of jets............

I ordered a carb kit from my local seadoo dealer, they had a generic kit in stock but I insisted on the mikuni for $65.00. So last Tuesday (4th) I ordered the kit and it was supposed to be in last Friday, as of today I still do not have the rebuild kit. I should have just ordered it online and I would have had it by now (sigh...).

So the we are still riding the ski because of the nice weather, family is in town until Thursday. This morning the ski was about out of gas, It started up and quickly died, I switched over to the reserve and ran the 100 yrds to the gas pump. The ski did not shut off, so I ran it a little more, the ski seemed to run better and ran WOT and did not shut off. So after riding for 45 minutes without any issues I came to the conclusion the the fuel selector was the issue.

I'll pull it back out of the water to clean it out Saturday. Something so simple could cause such a headache!

Maybe a problem in the fuel baffle/pickup, not sure if there are tubes/screens in this model but in the older skis I have found consistent problems in this area.

I have found it quite enlightening to attach a piece of clear fuel line to either the output from the fuel selector or via a coupling from the fuel line where it attaches to the screen fuel filter and start a siphon flow into a clear container (everybody should have an empty whiskey bottle laying around). Wiggle the ski around to slosh the fuel in the tank and look for consistent flow/water/crap while switching twixt normal and reserve fuel.

Hopefully this helps a little.

Rod

Well my nephew road it hard over the last few days and managed to knock the magnet out of the fuel gauge. So I'll have to pull the baffle out to fix the magnet.

So this does not happen again, what kind of glue can I use to secure that bugger in?

The seadoo dealer called and said the rebuild kit is in, I was wanting it by last Friday so they will sit on it for a few days because now I don't need it.

I just bought a new float at Action Yamaha the dealer in Bradenton FL. The cost w/ tax was about $13.
