Hey all, new member here.

I got a 1988 bombardier for $30, the guy said he hauled some stuff for a guy and the seadoo was payment. He was obviously not a pwc rider but said he just wanted his $30 in gas money back. Problem is, i tested the solenoid per the procedure in the Seloc manual and it seems to test good. For the hell of it i tried jumping the 2 top posts on the solenoid and nothing happened...shouldn't that activate the starter or is that a sign the solenoid is actually bad? Thanks.

That means either you have a wiring issue (power or ground), bad battery...if those are good then it would indicate the starter is bad. I have good used OEMs if you need it. Did it spark?

Have you pulled the plugs and tried turning it over by hand?

that this is in extremely good condition for a 88....I think its a 89 actually. I dont think they ever made a blue grab bar, but I have a grey one for behind the seat.

Thanks for the reply. I'm starting to think it's a wiring issue since the overheat warning buzzer went off for a second when unhooking the wires to the solenoid, the nut was almost off the post when this happened which made me think of a bad ground or something. The battery was in the "good" range when on the charger. It had a very very weak spark, almost to the point of only being able to see it in the dark.

I haven't pulled the plugs and turned over by hand yet because of the weather, maybe i'll try that tomorrow. What's the ideal way to turn over by hand? Looks like i need to remove the stator plate cover to get to the flywheel. The manual says "this type sealing ring will NEVER seal properly after it has been used once" so where might i find parts...from the dealer or is there a good place online to get a new seal? I was hoping the starter would kick out and turn the motor over before i dug too much into it, oh well.

It may be an 89, i was just going by the date found on the plate on the stern. Did these come with the grab bar you're talking about? None of the pics in the manual show a grab bar.

I'm guessing you have a battery or ground wire issue. Take the front cover off the motor and check all the grounds in there and signs of water as well as the main ground wire off the battery. When the cover is off you can turn the motor that way or take the driveshaft cover off.

Maybe the SI was the late season model to introduce the new hull that didnt have the engine access. Last two digits should be the year.

I dont think the grab bar came out till the 89 or 90 models. Look at this thread:http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?39959-wear-ring-needs-replacement-i-think...-(

Update. I've tested the solenoid, kill switch, and tether switch and they are all testing good. Checked all the grounds and turned the motor over by hand. I thought maybe the solenoid is actually bad even though it tested good since test light does not light up when pushing the start button and starter does not get power (solenoid does click). Out of frustration i tried by-passing the solenoid and jumped starter at the starter itself...nothing, just some sparks. So it looks like multiple problems now. I tried taking starter off to inspect but it looks like i need to remove engine to get to bottom bolt, am i correct? Is this ski even worth repairing or am i better off parting it? Minnetonka4me...how much for a starter if i keep going on this thing?

That ski is way to nice to part out. Since it has a 2005 sticker it has probably been in storage for the last 6 years. A little TLC will bring it back to life.

If you decide you don't want it I'll give you $60.00 double your money, LOL.

I need to pull my motor and plan on doing a re-seal since it will already be out and i seem to have an oil leak. Are there common seals that should be replaced and would it be a good idea to replace anything else while i'm at it? Where do i get seals etc? I clicked on the "parts" link above but am not seeing any rebuild kits.

One more question, does the impeller housing and driveshaft need removed to get motor out? It looks like it to me but if anyone has tips i'm listening.

Somebody may have loosen the ground post nut in the E-box if they removed the solenoid, and forgot to re-tighten.

i had the same problem and found some wiring issues.
fixed the wires and still nothing.
so i thought starter.
pulled the starter out and what do ya kno it was frozen!!! hahah
but my question is...is the solenoid suposed to make a click noise even if the starter doesnt turn???

thanks

yes i did that and i know its bad the brushes r frosen and it doesnt turn. so im replacing tonight but just wondering if the solenoid should have 6v on starter side constant?

i was wondering if curse had the same problem???

thanks

On the battery lug side is a small power wire to mpem. The plug is from the reed (circulates on to off) start/stop switch that energizes the dorment starter cable.
A click can indicate any poor connection, battery or cable or start/stop & its wires or starter relay (solenoid) or the starter, or its ground.
