Slow to no reverse speed

Hi all! My 95 Speedster has been a blast this summer. I bought it used from a guy that was very meticulous with his maintenance.

I am new to the jet boat thing. I am having issues with the reverse with this boat. When I shift the lever to reverse, the gate drops a little further down from the neutral position and is at the stops. In the water, it feels like I am still in neutral. The engines rev but I don't move backwards hardly at all.

Is this normal? Its almost like having no reverse on this boat.

Any ideas on what I should be checking?

Thanks. I thought I had a problem. Last week was the first time I really wanted to use reverse while docking. I overshot.

I have been pushing back from the trailer when putting it in the water and then turn the boat 180 degrees. Never used reverse!

Yup… just make sure your gate is going down.

When leaving a dock... I can throttle it hard… and it just crawls in reverse. BUT… if you throw it in reverse while going 35mph forward… it works well!!!! (get’s every one wet)

I also am new to jet boats, and the reverse got me too the first time. I put it in reverse and was hardly going anywhere, and if I'm not mistaken, the steering is opposite with it too. Or maybe it's one too many before I hit the water...

For the record, I can't drink, I'm allergic to alcohol. Just wanted to throw that in there for anyone who thought I'm drinking and boating.
