well overnight for some reason my ski sunk. i had it partly beached but the water got inside the hull and pretty much covered half the motor. didnt get in the carb but was pretty darn close. should i follow water flooded engine procedure ? its a 1989 seadoo sp. thanks

Drain the hull
Pull the plugs and ground them, and crank it.
If no water comes out then you are probably safe on that point.
Then try starting it, you may be lucky

OOPS, I forgot to say you must find out why water got in. Check the lines coming in from the jet area at the stern, all hoses, seals, etc.
Crack in Hull????

Chances are... it just leaked in past the carbon seal. They are not designed to be left in the water.

BUT... get it all drained, and the engine started.

I've never heard this before. I leave my ski's in overnight and never have a problem with water in the hull. I'll have to keep this in mind though, Thanks for the heads up.

If you are going to leave them in the water... you should get an automatic bilge pump. BUT... the little battery in a ski may be dead, and the ski still sunk by the time you find it.

As far as... "I never heard this before"... it's in the owners manual. (free to down load on SeaDoo's web site)

im gonna be building a dry dock to drive them on to keep them out of the water while not in use and to also service them when needed. there a little on the pricy side to buy and im a pretty darn good carpenter with a pretty good imagination so im sure i can come up with something creative , cheap and effective. i dont wanna be pulling these things out of the water every day and seeings as i use my neighbors boat ramp to launch my 6 jetskis and boat , im sure they dont want me there every day either as friendly as they are and all. right now i have it propped up on a couple big pine logs and tied to shore, its drained and dry and i can work on it. todays project is to get this thing running again, find where its leaking and have fun...

check out my avatar picture for ideas for your dry dock. I copied the width from my trailer. And cut the top of the sides to match the angle of the bunks then screwed on a 2x4 on the top and covered with carpet. I also suggest putting on bunk glides from Overtons

I used 2x4 for the cross members for hull clearance. My 4x4 posts just sit on top of the ground. The one in the background is 2' longer and provides more work room.

thats pretty sweet and simple. do you have a bigger pic of that you can send me ? well i figured where my leak came from.... had one of those duhhhh moments and forgot to tighten my drain plug. still have my fuel issue tho. tried a different carb on it and ran good for a minute then same thing. put my carb on the other ski and it ran fine so i still have some sort of fuel issue. have great spark , 145psi in each cylinder think its just some nasty gas left over from it sitting since 2005 so im gonna run a gas can and hose right to the fuel pump and see what happens but gonna clean carb, blow out all fuel lines and clean water seperator then try it. gotta do it today cause its gonna rain tomorrow and i have a honey do list to do on the rainy days....

I uploaded some pictures for you, put them in an album called "ski ramps" in my profile (click on my name to the left and view profile). pretty simple, just took a couple hours. make sure you extend them into the water far enough that the ski rides up on them without hitting the hull. Mine extend about 3.5' into the water. I dug out the shore bottom to allow the bottom of the ramp to recess into the shore.

The only problem I've found is limited access to the bottom of the hull. I have to pull the ski up the ramp backward with the tow hook to get any access to the intake grate. My access is limited cause I made the slope shallow for easier winching. the bunk glides are a major difference. Before I would have to really strain to push them down the ramp into the water. With the bunk glides, I just give them a nudge and they slide into the water by themselves.

make sure you keep the crossmembers low enough for hull clearance, the first 2x4 at the water end I put on horizontally rather than vertical for the ski to clear as it comes out of the water. make sure you have clearance to turn the handle across the front, I had to lower my support across the front, and you definately need the support I have angled up to support the post holding the winch. I had originally planned to put the winch on the front side of the post but that didn't work so I lost a foot of "rampage". the nice thing is if you decide you want the ramp longer after its built, it's pretty simple to add an extension onto the front.

well i just figured out why ski sunk last night other then me not tightning the drain. while i was installing a new wear ring and impellar i noticed no o rings on the bailer tubes only silicone. there should be 3 of the orings and there were none so that could also add to my sinking feeling... lol... got 3 new o rings today and wear ring and new impellar already installed now to put it all together... the honey do list will have to wait, im going riding i hope........
