I take that back, it probably is an SBT engine but it has been opened up since it came from them. That's what I meant. Like CReynolds stated, I don't think SBT would do that sealant job

That was my thoughts. I think it came from SBT, but they certainly weren't the last ones to turn a wrench on it

I am an Auburn Alum (08 Mechanical Engineering). I am located just up 85 about 45 mins. If you need a hand or want to ride send me a PM and we can communicate. War Eagle! Congrats on the find!

I hope everyone had a good 4th of July weekend. Here's a few updates on the skis:

I got on the road Thursday afternoon with the XPs in tow and seeing that bright yellow hull in the mirror was just awesome...so I took a picture.

The first thing I did was get them off the trailer and onto some carts so I could wheel them around the garage easier. I'm pretty sure I had a grin on my face all day Thursday knowing I had not 1, but TWO of my 'bucket list' skis coming home with me to stay, since I have no intentions of selling either of these for quite some time.

I was pleasantly surprised when I emptied the last little bit of polishing compound out of a bottle and got this result with such minimal effort. getting the yellow back to a shine won't be an issue. I'm still debating on the final paint scheme for this hood, but I have some time to think about it.

The next thing I did was pull the pump off, which was a job in itself since the PO had emptied a tube of silicone around the seal. I was pleasantly suprised to find an impeller and wear ring both in great shape. The bearings also felt nice and tight.

Next we broke out the chain hoist and snatched the motor out

I didn't have much time to get far into the motor between getting ready for the 4th and a few other commitments at the time, but this is what I found when I pulled the mag cover off:

After looking over the rest of the motor, I can confirm that the bottom end of the motor hasn't been touched since SBT did it, since the paint on the bolt heads is untouched. There was also plenty of oil in it, which came out clean of any debris. I did have some time to throw a battery on #2 and was greeted with the sweet sound of 2 short beeps. Awesome. I have a working MPEM and matching key. The VTS didn't work, but that can be fixed pretty easy. With what I'm seeing so far, it shouldn't take too much to get #111 back on the water pretty quick, hopefully around mid August when I'm back home. I've also got a few plans brewing for a trailer build, but that will come later.

And to wrap up this installment of X-4 updates, here's a picture from the fireworks show the other night.

Stay tuned!

I started a trailer build thread here: http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?72287-SeaDooDAN-s-trailer-build-thread

I'll keep all updates in there that pertain to the trailer. I do have a small update on the ski. My dad spent a little time and cleaned up the inside of the hull and gave it a good wash. I'd say it cleaned up well. Sorry for the picture quality...company phone problems.

3 more weeks and I'll be back in the garage to work in these things and I can't wait. I also have a few changes coming for #111. I like the look of the race bars when the full steering setup is being used...which mine doesn't have. I don't think it looks bad, but it's not great. Also, the lack of padding has me concerned since I've had braces and some jaw surgery when I was younger and there is no way I want to undo that EVER. And to top it all off, these are tweaked a little bit. Nothing the acetylene torches couldn't fix, but a problem nonetheless. I am looking into replacing it with the plastic cover and bars from a GTX at the moment. I also have a lead on yet another '96 XP that is missing enough to not be a good resto candidate, but is cheap enough to be worth it in parts alone and would get both #111 and #2 in running shape. I'm still waiting to hear back on that one. I'm hoping it will work out and I will post updates when they come.

What polish did you use to get the yellow color that was faded out like that? I've been using the heat gun and it's come back out but not like that

I think all I used was some Mother's medium or heavy cut polishing compound. The results you see were barely putting any effort into it. With some elbow grease it would look great.

Adhesive remover, let it sit for 30 -60 seconds. You can get it at an auto parts store.

Goo gone does not work well

It's update time! After some number crunching on the parts that I need for the XPs, I decided to look into buying another parts ski. And yes, that is what #2 was originally for, but I have decided that I want it running as well... And soon. I had taken some pictures when I was at the salvage yard before and remembered a GSX that looked bad on the outside, but was clean up under the hood, so I called them up and agreed on a price for a '96 GSX that's complete, but cosmetically ROUGH shape, as you can see below.

I will be into this ski for about $50 less than just parts were going to run me anyway. The race ski will be getting the GSX bars and cover, painted black with a yellow pad. And with the GSX bars comes the Info gauge control buttons, which got me to thinking.... Why not try and put the GSX gauges into the XP hood? I haven't seen it done (which there may be a reason), but I think the end result would be sweet. I'm still doing some thinking on that.

Ill be sure to post pictures when the GSX in on my trailer. Stay tuned! Build time is almost here!

I finally got around to picking the GSX up today and it's even rougher than I remembered! The big thing is that the parts I need are all here, which is what I bought it for. Unfortunately, this ski is past restorable, so once it's stripped the hull will be going to the scrap yard.

I did crack the motor open and it had some water and rust in the MAG piston, but it appears to be an original motor. I'll tear it down to see how bad the rest of it is. At worst I'll sell it as a core or something.

It won't be long until the XPs start getting wrenched on and I absolutely can't wait.

I may be interested in the GSX hull at some point. Let me know before it goes to the dump and I will come pick it up.

My dad has been working on #2 the last few days and I would say it's looking sharp! Quite a difference from before

Surprisingly enough WD40 brought the color back in the hood. It could still use 1 more good polish job, but I'm very pleased with it now. As of now, I'm ordering new mats and a seat cover for this one, but I am still undecided on graphics (if any) and what to do with the hood. It might get painted black too, but who knows at this point. The reassembly on the race ski begins Sunday afternoon. Get ready for picture overload.

Alright, so I have a ton of pictures and stuff to post up...later. But first, I have an electrical gremlin I'm hoping yall can help with. First, I'll cover what I do know. The start/stop switch has been checked with my volt meter and it tested fine. The ground at the motor is clean. All fuses have been replaced and all connections and wires have been inspected. The MPEM has given me 2 beeps before.

The problem. As soon as I hook up the battery I can hear a relay in the MPEM turn on and all gauges power up. Keep in mind, this is without the key. When I press the start/stop button, nothing happens. I swapped the MPEM itself and the problem still exists, so that tells me that there is a problem 'upstream'. Now, there are 2 wires on 1 of the plugs on the MPEM that got hot enough at some point to melt the insulation off and wires touched, though this was fixed before I ever put power to it. Any ideas on what to check? I am going to continue to do some research on it, but I was hoping someone could speed up the process. I'll be glad to elaborate on the problem if need be.

The first thing I would do is investigate the melted wires further. There shouldn't be high current in or around the MPEM. Can you tell us the wire colors that are damaged. Even if they are repaired now, when they were once shorted it could have damaged some other components.

I would fool with melted wires, I'll sell you a new harness cheap if you want.

Follow the red(sometimes pinkish) up from the rear black box, through the plug and into the front grey box. Where does it connect to first in the box? I'm hoping maybe a wire has been swapped?
