Hi, i am looking for info on performance mods for a seadoo rx 2001. what is there i can do, for better performance wise?

thanks

Solas Concord ST-CD-15/20

I run these on all my personal skis, love 'em.

else: LEAVE IT ALONE.

do not sacrifice reliability for horsepower. You will die a slow death by money and frustration.

In fact, if that's a carb ski, let me know, I want that one ;)

Actually, what you should do is dissassemble, clean, and make sure everything is working 100%

ie clean RAVEs
jet pump bearings / oil
water regulator inspect

fuel filter - replace / clean

you want to make your 11 year old ski, BRAND NEW basically... keep everything OEM, and clean it / fix it.

but DO NOT start modding it unless you are really ready to give up a ski that works 100% of the time.

I'm not being a downer, or against modifying your ski if your prepared for the issues you will encounter. If you MUST have that last 5 MPH, go for it. I hope you get it. However I've seen, in many industries, that it just doesn't pay off...

I have one of those props for sale for $150 in 100% mint condition if interested.

It really doesnt pay on the 951s...takes a lot of $$ to make such a little difference on them at the expense of reliability.

I would also add cleaning the carbs if it is indeed a carb model. Rebuilding them would be even better.

so basically since it is 11 years old, moding it should be a nono? well it runs 100% i honestly have had no problems with it i love it, but i find that my gas runs a little fast, still is a 60L gas tank, changing the fuel filter, is one thing i can do is there anything else? a lot of people tell me that the rx is a good model even though a little old, i still get the odd person asking me where i got one because they are looking for one. but i can't seem to find any 04-08 models for sale, and don't feel like buying new. haha anyways

The best thing you can do to all machines is replace the prop...thats the solas. Not a bad thing to change out the wear ring when you are installing your prop. Make sure to use only OEM wear rings.

The 951 motor is pretty much at its limit...thats why is isnt really worth modding. Most seadoo motors need multiple mods to get anything out of it. One mod is not gonna really do anything.

BTW..the reason you cant find any 04-08s?? They dropped that model in 03. LOL

just saw your pictures, i was thinking visual aesthetics, like a new handle bar would be nice on my seadoo and the foot liner also where do you get those?

nevermind haha, found the liner, how do those work? they talk about 3m adhesive tape? or wtv? is it just like a stick on type thing or ? you're helping me quit a bit i must say. haha thanks

I personally like to buy the non adhesive Hydroturf and use contact cement. Purchase thru this site; its the cheapest you can get anywhere. Be aware it takes a few weeks to get to you.

The handle bar setups (UMI) are quite expensive and just putting aftermarket bars on the stock steering stem just looks dumb IMO. Prob in the 6-700 for all new parts.

I would skip that and get a nice seat cover from Jettrim. They are more expensive than the rest, but the quality is worth every penny.

I, dislike the whole dirt bike style handlebars, the OEM setup looks nice and is padded for the inevitable, where did that wave come from BAM chest to bars...

As for fuel consumption, it's a boat, that's what they do...

Just make sure to use the right oil too. the sea-doo XPS-II full synthetic in that engine.

What's the top speed? I've hit 68 MPH on a GPS on my '02 XP with 3/4 tank. same day up river run was 63 MPH, so average top is 65.5

GPS is the only way to get your real speed, the speedo on mine is within 4 MPH at 60, so it's damn close, but not considered reliable for stats. I have a garmin V I put in a water proof box with a shirt around it, under the hood in the XP, do a run, then record top speed. then opposite direction. then you get real #s. I'd also like to get my 0-30 and 0-60 times from it this summer.

i'm going to chime in and x2 on the prop suggestions, assuming you don't want spec II :)
there are performance gains to make, but like detailed above, it WILL be less reliable, it WILL shorten its lifespan...
make a prop change, you will notice a difference and it won't break the bank.

whats this solas concord business, sounds good :p hahah

It's an impeller. or prop or blade or whatever other name it goes by.

it's what actually moves your ski forward. The OEM prop is great for all around riding.

Many of us have had success with this particular aftermarket one, it's cheaper than OEM, and gives you the best of acceleration, and you may gain 1-2 MPH top end.

removing the impeller requires special tools, or a dealer, it's NOT hard to complete, but you must do it correctly.

This is the only 'mod' that I endorse.

IF your OEM prop is damaged beyond use, replace it with this one.

I wouldn't bother replacing it if the OEM one is fine. but if / when you suck something up and it goes, get this one.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impeller

the season is so short, I used to keep a spare Solas in my garage, but when I was on a road trip w/the skis I blew an impeller.

Now I have a spare jet pump assembled and ready to swap in to my skis on the road! (both of my skis are 951s and use the same pump / parts) (yes I planned it that way)

I can't replace a wear ring / impeller on a trailer 4 hours from home, but swapping a jet pump..? an hour max maybe... it's 4 bolts for the nozzle, steering/trim, and then 4 for the pump. so maybe 1/2 hr if I need...

i have two gps devices...

for a simple speed and breadcrumb trail device, the garmin etrex is perfect. ($100 new, $40-60 used)

if you want a map,, check fleabay or craigslist for a garmin gps76 under $100 used and still functions just fine, handheld.

for the record, i almost never use my 76 model unless i'm in a totally unknown ride spot
