I think I may have made an error in taking my seadoo engine apart. When breaking it down to find my problem (burnt connecting rod on the rear cylinder), I took the magneto cup off the flywheel without marking it. Now I have the new engine here at the house and I am going to need to install the flywheel and magneto correctly.

Does anyone have the proper way to verify the correct installation of the flywheel and magneto for correct timing?

Any instructions or helping hands to point me in the right direction would be so appreciated.

Thanks,
Patrick

You should be able to see some sort of pattern...the 787s have a hole that usually makes a mark to line up.

Manual shows the magnet lines up with a hole on the outer edge of the flywheel.

I have a Seadoo shop manual at home for the 951 I can look it up when I get home if u don't get it done before then

I would surely appreciate that. I am certain to not get that far along. I still have to detail the inside of the hull. I also have to put all the sensor and fittings on that I can.

Your ring gear (flywheel) will have an alignment hole. This hole will be towards the outer part of the ring gear face and all by itself.
On the outside of the mag cup are a couple of rectangular protrusions.
Take the mag cup and align the right end of one of the protrusions with the hole. The bolt pattern should line up. Use green loctite 648 on the mating surface and the bolts.
