No coastal, it was doing what it does now just clicks, I then rebuilt the pump as it was ciezed to the shit house. When I took pump off to rebuild it turned over, I finished rebuilding put pump back on, made click noise. Took off pump, made click noise, by passed solenoid, made click noise, took spark plugs out and I couldn't turn over with my hand.

Remove and clean all cables. Bypass solenoid by running a jumper cable directly to the starter. See what happens then.

The starter is so hard to get to, there's no easy way of getting it out or getting to it but I'll try

I hear you. Bottom line you need to do something just so you can figure out a direction to head.

As a general rule when something clicks ibis one if two things. The solenoid or the starter engaging but not able to spin the motor.

As long as your pump is not seized, you have one of four issues. Bad wires or connection, bad battery, bad starter, it seized motor. Connection issues are common and create all kind if issues.

Best way to test connection issues?? eliminate other problems I guess?

Pretty much. Remove, wire brush and put back together with dielectric grease all the cables. Even if this isn't the issue it is a GREAT thing to do.

With the plugs removed the engine should turn easily. If not, it is either seized or the starter is jammed against the flywheel.

I just read over the entire thread and I agree with Coastie, either the engine is seized or the starter/bendix is jammed or seized. So the next step would be to remove the starter to see which one it is. Removing the starter on your ski, with the right tools is not terrible, but you'll need a wobble extension and use a little weatherstrip adhesive inside the 13mm socket so the bolt doesn't roll under the motor.

Question: When you removed the pump and tried to start your ski, did you also remove the drive shaft? If you didn't, and this is just a theory, it may be possible that the drive shaft is bent or the motor is out of alignment enough that the drive shaft is binding.

put a pipe wrench on the pto, rotate it backwards about an inch or 2, this will unlock the starter if it is stuck in the flywheel, you will here a pronounced click.....

Jeff,

That's a great idea, that's the difference between a shade tree mechanic (me), and an Appalachian Technician (you)!

I agree with grizz, I didn't understand it but on my 97 XP sometimes if the battery wasn't fully charged sometimes the bendix would get stuck in the flywheel and wouldn't retract until I grabbed the driveshaft with some locking pliers an shook it back and forth until it came unlocked. Weird, but I just lived with it and always kept channel locks in my ski lol

Thanks heaps mate I will see what I can do with the starter, and try free it up, I'd prefer to get it out and have a look at how it's going too probably hasn't been changed in years

Hey guys I've un done the exhaust manifold but i can get it out it's to big, is there an easy way to take that filter thing off

You shouldn't need to remove the exhaust manifold to remove the starter. Can you post a picture?

Have you tried to free the starter by rotating the PTO CCW? Also do you have a service manual?

That is your air intake box. If you cant unbolt it and slide it towards the back of the ski, you might have to take the 4 bolts of the cross support where the rear seat clips into and remove it to gain some space to pull out the airbox.
