Hey guys, I decided to take the 2001 Sea Doo GTX I recently bought to the local shop here (Honda/Sea Doo of Tulsa) to have the old grey tempo fuels lines changed out. They also overhauled both carbs and put new carb kits on both of them because they said the filters had some trash in them (most likely tempo gunk). They tank tested it and said everything was operating to spec. I fired it up for about 10 seconds off the hose today before I took it to the lake and the engine idled faster than when I brought it in to the shop, at about 3000 RPMs. Then when I throttled it up a little and let off the throttle the engine didn't idle back down for some reason. Thinking the issue might not happen in water I took it to the lake today to water test it since I have a 30 day warrenty on their work and the weather was a nice 60 degrees  When releasing the throttle on water it drops down to idle quickly, but it idled faster at around 2200RPMs then after about 30 seconds of idling it dropped to 1500-1700 RPMs, this happened both while the engine was cold and warmed up. Is this normal? Also after it dropped it didn't run as smooth as it did at 2200 RPMs but it never stalled out while idling. Just wondering if I should take it back to the shop to have them check it over again. As I was heading back to the ramp I ran into another issue. I had just started the sea doo and began to accelerate when I heard a single beep and the red light came on and the engine cut out instantly. I pulled my DESS thinking it had come loose and put it back in and it happened again. This time I wiped the contacts off and rode it around for awhile and it didn't happen again, I've read on here that dirty contacts can cause this? I'm going to start by cleaning both contacts with dish soap unless anyone else has any other ideas. Thanks!

Your idle in the water... after it's warmed up for a minute or so should be right at 1500 RPM. That normally makes the "Out of the water" idle around 3000 RPM. BUT... the out of the water idle is irrelevant.

With that said.... if your idle is hangs at 2200, even after it's warm... then you have an air leak, or your Low screws aren't adjusted properly.

I know what you mean about running away, this thing has great acceleration and speed compared to the 93 GTX I uses to ride. Well in the case it has an air leak that's something I'll take back in and let them fix. As far as the key problem goes, are the issues usually with a bad DESS or post?

imo 80% of the time its just a dirty stretched out key, they're a tad annoying. sometimes a quick clean and maybe a zippie will help to resolve the problem. but for the record, my key is clean and relatively new and it still gives me a single beep or nothing on occasion, i take it out, blow on it (every time, i'm ocd about that) and put it back on.

Tony was correct, took it back in to the dealer and the fuel line connecting the carbs had a loose clamp on it letting in a small amount of air.
