RXT X 300 vs RXP X 300 - Top Speed/Acceleration - Close if Not the Same?

Hey all - Been really reading about the new 300 1630 ace engine since last year.

Wanted to get some opinions of anyone who has ridden both of the above skis.

I read a review of someone who had read both, and they loved the RXP - which is the one I am getting.

However, I get the Watercraft Super Store annual magazine, which is a fav bathroom book of mine in the spring. :)

Last year in their line up, they couldn't talk enough about the RXT.... How it hit 70+ with a 160 pound rider etc etc etc.

This years lineup had the RXP, and this review mentioned that it would 'likely' hit 68... making it seem like the RXP is slower if you read both reviews back to back.

Even on the seadoo web page, the RXT 300 has a quotation next to it saying: 0-60mph in 3.8 seconds, while the RXP 300 had no such boast on its page.

If I am using logic, the RXP has the same engine, and LESS weight - which would make me think that they are both pretty close, with the RXP edging out the bigger RXT.

Let me know what you guys think!

I think it's difficult to compare the stock skis as they're sold. I have the GTX 300, a heavy ski, and in sport mode the 3.8 second number is still about right. There's so much horse power you can't use it all and rider weight and ski weight mean less. It goes straight to just a scosh under 70 and then the speed control limit kicks in. Until you get an override module I don't think any of the ski differences are going to matter too much. The ECU is in control of all of them. I raced a couple of modified 260 skis last year and I had them on the way up but being modified in the end they passed me at 70+.

The skis are GPS regulated with a variance of 1-2 MPH or so. So they will both reach 69 MPH or so as it is limited by the GPS.

Right, the top speed will be almost identical with the ecu...

It was the acceleration that I was wondering about given the weight difference between the 3 different models with the 300 engine.

Kinda blew me away that a review from last year was so amazed by the 1630 engine, and then this year didn't seem as thrilled.

Hell, compared to my stock STX-15f, I am in for a ride no matter what!

Got em... I accessorized like a girl for this purchase... got my Seadoo gray/red side entry life jacket, red and black gloves, and red SeaSpecs.... looooool

 Now I don't feel so bad. I've bought a 2016 RXT 260 and so far my purchases have all matched the colors of the ski. Black shorty sleeveless wetsuit, 3 yellow or mostly yellow pairs of trunks, half a dozen yellow t-shirts, 3 pair of ski shoes-2 yellow/black, 1 black, 2 SeaDoo PFDs, 1 neoprene, 1 vinyl-both yellow/black, of course, and a pair of polarized sunglasses with cool yellow stripes. Even my dry bag will be yellow, as I've already spied the one I want. Oh, bought a bunch of yellow lines as well, as Walmart was closing them out and I nearly stole them.

I only know one guy that has ridden both, and he has a heavy finger on the throttle pretty much all the time.

In stock mode he couldn't tell the difference although a stopwatch might have suggested that there was one but in reality .1 or .2 seconds isn't really going to be noticed unless you are out drag racing everyone.

In the end he selected the XP over the XT because he likes a slightly smaller model and likes to carve hard at high speeds. Although the new hulls handle chop so much better than they did prior to the hull swap my suggestion would be to stick with the XP if you are going to be riding solo 90%+ and in light chop or flat water. Go with the XT if you might take passengers more frequently and ride in the ocean where the little bit of added stability will be noticeable.

Speed wise unless you do the tune I don't think you will be able to tell one from the other in a straight line run, both will pull dam hard.

Nice! Thanks for the input. I have another ski, so if the wife and I go riding, it is usually separate. I do take the kiddos for rides, but that'll be in SLO mode for sure on this one. :)

I chose the RXP for the smaller frame (maybe better wave jumps? I am on a small lake, so no ocean waves for me).

I am also 250lbs - so the extra 100lbs the RXP shaves off certainly can't hurt!

Also, as far as mods - the only thing I believe I will do to the machine is the SCOM to avoid the governor. So only the stock engine power at its full potential...

Although who knows - it may pucker my butt so much at total stock I will abandon that idea...

The Rxpx 300 has a better performing hull in chop. You would think the tx would be better . The Rxpx is a beast

I bought a tx 300 last year looked at both really wanted rxpx. But I needed a 3 seater for tubing purposes . Best advice I can give you when you pick it up at the dealer make sure you tell them to check all hose clamps and make sure everything is tight they had problems . I know they had a recall on head bolts , supercharger impeller and they had to reprogram intelligent brake. I know yours will have everything done . it's a nice machine.

I would agree normally... the head of the service department said to me: If you remove it before you bring it in for any warranty issue - it was never there ;)

When I bought my tx 300 the service manager was very cool when I mentioned a mild tune . Also they were a class act when they prepped my ski they made sure every hose clamp and fitting was tight , and they completed all recalls before I picked up. Every time I hear someone say they had to tighten hose clamps after they picked there new ski up I just think they dealt with a crappy dealer who didn't prep their ski correctly

Was there a service bulletin put out for those clamps and fittings? Would be nice to have that and bring it in to make sure it was done.

With regard to the SCOM and mild tune, a factory service technician can scan those computers and immediately see how long the ski was at every RPM range. It doesn't matter if it was removed or not. If your ski ended up with certain issues I can see any time spent over a certain RPM being a possible reason for warranty exclusion, regardless of what any dealer tells you. It's just a big risk in my opinion. Be careful.

Removing a top speed governor should not affect warranty. That's there for liability. If you remove a boost or rev limiter - that's another story.

The S3 hull is more efficient than the T3 hull and thus it'll have better top speed and acceleration. But the T3 hull turns much better. If you're riding lake only I'd go PX.

I basically wanted a personal yacht as I ride to Catalina and do a lot of long distance rides so I chose the GTX iS.

Edit: I figured I'd mention yes I'm aware he's looking at 300's which have no suspension option - I was just saying at the time I was choosing between a TX, PX, and my GTX (all 260 of course at that time) and I made my decision based on my riding environment.

I did some reading on the hulls after your comments about speed - and all I can find are opinions. No factual stuff about being more efficient etc.

However, after reading the opinions, and realizing that my craft will never see the ocean while owned by me, and I want it for play and wave jumping, the T3 RXP seems the correct choice. Whew!

Love the RXP-X... finally got it in the water mid May - and am approaching 20 hours on it now. I will write a full review once the season ends. Where would be the right place in the forums to put that? For others wondering about the different choices?

I just got the 18 RXTx 300. It is a total revamp and has set the bar high. The newly designed 86lbs lighter hull Handles more like the RXP. It is 3" shorter and 1"+ wider. Awesome amount of easy access storage too. The new BRP audio system sounds really good and is for sure worth the money. The seat has 2 sections. You can remove the rear seat and reposition/rearrange on the swim platform for more seating options. Or just remove it if you want the extra room to lay out or hang out. It also has a new linq system. This attachment system lets you add on optional fuel caddy, storage or a cooler. I look for someone to make other accessories that will attach as well. Other options are Ski Pylon, fenders, USB phone charging among other items. I would just buy a marine USB port off Amazon for $14 and install it yourself. THe single USB plug from seadoo is $109!!

Awesome, can you post a few pictures or maybe even a video showing your sound system in action? I'm sure others would love to see.

A scom will not void warranty, as the ecu is not re-programmed or anything. Stock rev limiter is not changed. It is simply tricking the gps limiter to think its at the right speed but really the ski is going faster to its limiter.
