Hi i've been reading heaps on here sorry if its the wrong place to ask. I'm currently having my engine rebuilt and i've read you can only run the engine for a short time on the garden hose because the pump bearings & seals will overheat. Can I run it before I reinstall the pump? Is there then a limit for how long i should let it run? What is the best way to run it in? Thanks in advance.

The motor wil run without the pump shaft if you choose to start this way, from the hose about the same as with everything all connected, after you hear it run then continue putting all the cooling hoses on and dip the ski/boat at the last ramp and leave it on the trailer to run a little more with all the stuff hooked up, this way you can see any fuel, oil, water hose/fitting leaks and check the charging system also, this step will take away many fears of failure away from the dock.
