The rubber boot that connects to the motor has a pin hole. Its the small boot that is held in place by the oetiker clamps. Do I need to remove the entire shaft to replace this.I will try and post a picture.

you need to remove the prop and all the housings including the steering and trim. when you have all that apart the shaft should pop right out

I'm not telling you what to do, but if it were me I would put this repair off till after the season. All that the zerk fitting does is keep grease in that end of the drive shaft. It's still getting lubrication, just some of it is leaking out. As a temporary repair wrap some electrical tape around the boot.

The reason I'm telling you this is this could turn into a major project. Because while you are at it you will probably want to check the wear ring and rebuild the drive shaft, all of which consumes time and money, time you could be on the water.

I agree with Lou, I wouldn't worry about it untill the end of the season. For now just put some tape on to help keep the grease from flying out.

That said, though it's about a 2 hour job to remove the jet pump and drive shaft, replace that boot, and put it all about together. Possibly a bit longer if it's your first time. However while I was at it, I would change the pump oil which is easy, and probably check the engine alignment if you have an alignment tool. Obviously I would check the impeller and wear ring but not mess with it unless it shows wear.

Still if it's running good, you can post pone all the maintince untill the end of the season by just putting some tape around the gromet for now.

i had a pinhole in the rubber bellows in my water control valve 2 years ago and I think it was $34 to replace, i put a dab of permatex on it and its been fine ever since. might want to try that, could be a little difficult if you got grease oozing from it though

You might develope a warp in the carbon ring soon. The grease pressure keeps the ring snug, and the water outside the hull when in the water is the lubricant. Worst that can happen is a water leak there, into compartment, buying two new parts, pump seal ect you'd be buying
any-when you fix it. Usually you put two pumps in the grease zerk every 2-3 times out. (if ya can remember).
