Does anyone know the RPM vs MPH. i have a 2000 GTX Red. I know that the wear ring needs to be changed out along with bearing. On the last trip out its i have to reach around 3200 to get on plain. when i got back did some reserch and found that .040 is the min clearance between prop and wear ring well mine is .25 with no oil in in the pump just stinking water. i cannot find chart on this. Thanks for the help

Hi,

I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you asking what RPM correlates into what MPH? Max. rpm's for your ski with stock impeller should be around 7000-7200rpm's and top speed 50-55mph. This can vary because of passenger load, wind conditions, amount of waves and chop, also the accuracy of the stock SeaDoo speedometer can vary.

Maximum clearance between the wear ring and impeller is .044 about the thickness of a dime, you can check it with a feeler gauge. If you are measuring .25" you probably don't have any wear ring left, just the fiberglas core. You should check the clearance with oil in the pump, in fact always keep oil in the pump, even when sitting. If there is water in the pump you will need to rebuild the pump.

Thanks. I will have that done when the parts show up. I guess the real question should have been from what is the RPM should be around 10 to 15 MPH. It seems that the RPM is to high in the boats present state. It is turning around 2800 to 3200 just to get me moving at slow speed. I am hoping this will change once all the work is done.

i told a guy once to use a dime, , he didnt have a dime and used 2 nickles, but, sounds like u need a wear ring, also will probably be a little different now with that cooler full of beer and ice hanging off the back, will run better on way back in, cause i know u aint catchin many fish -- lol

When you are cavitating, (Which you are), the revs will be a lot higher to get to the same speed (MPH), that's if you ever get to high speed.
All you are doing is pushing water thru the jet space between the impeller and whats left of the ring....

REPLACE the wear ring and you'll notice a huge difference in your speeds.

Thanks guys
That is what I figured. Once the parts arive should not take me long to have her back on the water. The time is getting almost right for sighting reds on the fly rod. Yes SeadooLou the only thing you see when looking on the inside is fiberglass the only rubber is on the ends. And i am guessing it sound quiter also.

Grizz I will send pics do not worry.

Thanks to all.

Who works on Seadoos in League City? I used to live in Clear Lake and I have a friend who aquired a doo who lives in Baytown.

To be honest I have no idea in this area. If he lives in Baytown there is Gene's Motor Sports on I-10 east of Hwy 146. I have no idea what they charge to do work either. I am trying to do as much as I can here at the house, this kind of stuff is what makes it fun to me.

Hey Rabid
Found someone else to work on Seadoo's in the Houston area, several people where I work have used him and they seem to trust him. A W & Sons Phone #(713) 957-3127 if you want to pass this along to the guy in Baytown.. Have a good day

Ok guys recieved all the parts and removed old bearings and wear ring. Here are some pics of what they looked like. The wear ring is as much as gone, stinken water in the housing. Had a friend at work today make me a bearing removeal/installation tool, I think I included it in one of the pics. So tomorrow we start going back togeither.

yep, u definately found the problem, lol, i left a fish recipe in fishin section also, lol nice hearin from u

hey, that last pic u have with impeller in new wear ring, whats your clearance ??? looks like alot, with a new wear ring should be very little, remember .040 is max, new shouldnt be much, measure it out and let us know

just take a file lightly on impeller around the nicks, just to clean up the burrs

.024, but there is maybe two spots that has this much the rest is .018 to.020. In that photo it is just setting in side the ring. i have it together and that is the reads I gave you. If need i can take more pics with it on the shaft. The prop is for some reason looks worst in the pic than in real life. I think i will save some money and get a new prop later...

I run a Solas Concord in all my 951 skis. cheaper than OEM, and gives me quicker off the line, while keeping the same top or 1-2 mph more.

old fisherman, what did you use to press your bearings out? the manual says to use an arbor press but i don't think any of them can fit the pump housing in unless i buy like a 6 ton, which seems a bit overkill. i'm thinking of improvising a bit on suggestion someone gave me, to use the weight of my xterra and a jack to press things together, but i'm not sure how well that will go. is there really a lot of force required to press the bearings and seal out/new ones in? i wouldn't expect so since the housing is plastic.

You can use anything to get the old bearings out, an old socket, a piece of pipe. To install the new bearings if you buy the bearing tool from Dr Honda it will automatically set the depth and you can use a dead blow hammer.

really? the manual says specifically "never install bearings with a hammer"

i bought Dr. Honda's tools already as well to simplify installing the bearings correctly.

Also what help me is before i installed the wear ring and everything was already removed bearing,etc.. The cylinder where the bearing set is aluminum I heated it up for a bit in the oven they slide in with a little force but no hammering required. Right now all is back together and let me look real quick yep raining its a?? off here right now. Maybe sunday I will put her in the water for a real run. The next thing to do is install a combo fishfinder /GPS, waiting on the bonus money for that should be here by the end of the month. This is what i am going to install,
