Removed my pump cone and there was nothing but water inside I was sort of expecting there to be water due to the lack of maintaince I have been finding from the previous owner so here is the problem my impeller is touching my wear ring and there is some slight nickes and dings in the impeller and the wear ring is all pitted up so should I replace with all oem parts or go for a aftermarket impeller and wear ring and if aftermarket what would be the best choice my ski is all stock

Hi,

If it were me I would stick with OEM impeller and wear ring, you could use an aftermarket impeller i.e. Solas or a rebuild OEM but definately stay with the OEM wear ring.

It sounds to me like your major problem is water in the pump, should be heavy weight oil. It's time for a pump rebuild, seals, bearings etc.

Joining in on cone thread

I just took my cone off, tilted trailer and expected much more oil... Should I have had more? It is heavy weight and carries a heavy smell as well.

just install with screw side up, and make sure before installing the 3-8mm bolts, that the o-ring and cone are seated flush with housing, bud.

Thanks man. We newbies sure appreciate you guys sharing the info and keep us from screwin' up our equipment.

When you refill the pump with oil use a synthetic gear oil. I use 75-90W Mobile 1 LS synthetic. I doesn't smell near as bad as the OEM oil that was in the pump. They have it at AutoZone.

Wear Ring

It sounds to me like you might just need a wear ring. I would try to replace the wear ring first and then check the clearance, minor nicks on the impeller will not make a lot of difference.

Well took a better look at the impeller and it deffinetly needs to replaced so I'm might go with a solas st cd 15/20 impeller and a oem wear ring or a oem impeller and wear ring I found a good deal on a oem wear ring and impeller so I might just go with that and new bearings and seals thanks for the advice

Im kinda late to the party, but when you put it together...ESP if there was water inside, the O ring on the cone should be replaced EVERY time it comes apart. OEM only.

Also using aerobic sealant (looks like red loctite, usually next to it at the store) is good extra protection.

When the bung goes back in, I always use pipe sealant on it.

Amsoil has marine gear lube now...cheap. It resists breaking down due to water.

A mint OEM is alright, but an aftermarket prop will make a pretty big difference. ESP. if you also replace the wear ring (OEM ONLY!!!)

Ok so I just ordered a brand new oem impeller and wear ring and paid only $214 shipped so that's what I'm goin with for now but now I guess I'm gonna order a bearing and seal kit cause if I'm doin this much might as well go all the way what is a good brand kit or go oem as well

I have never heard anything bad about the aftermarket kits. You do need some bearing/seal "drivers" to deinstall/install parts.

Make sure you replace that oring on the cone.

I did buy a new seal and oil from Seadoo hoping to just service the oil but now i have to go deeper into it so I'm just gonna do a full rebuild as far as tools go I'm a diesel mechanic so I'm sure I have something to get the job done thanks to all will give updates as I do the work I have had so many problems with my ski drive shaft fell out broke the gas tank tip end seized up lines caused problems the list goes on lol still love it tho
