Workin on the 99 gsx.
took the bore from 88mm to 89mm.
manual says that only .25 mm oversize is acceptable without clearancing the rave valves. So.....what is the best way to clearance them and HOW MUCH??
Thanks guys.
alright bud, 1mm is .040, so if there's .010 clearance AFTER the first bore, than take atleast .030 off the RAVE...done with file or grinder at the "beveled" lip.
I understand not enough and i screw my pistons. but if i go like a 1/2 or a full mm too much is there really any ill effects? because once i score the piston it's scored. $300++ down the drain.
dont want to make a mistake you know.:ack:
Not really. The valve clearance at .040" oversize will be the same as when it is at .010 oversize.
When a cylinder is bored out to .010 oversize, the cylinder wall thickness is reduced by .005" all the way around. Take .005" out from one side and .005" out from the other side and that equals .010" increase in diameter.
So, if you only remove .005" from the cylinder wall, then you only have to remove .005" from the valve.

thanks, i checked it out... i should be able to just file one down, comparing the amount i took off to the other untouched rave until i get the correct amount off... then file the other one to match the shaved one
just to clarify... you meant 0.020 inches? or millimeters?
Need to shave the raves back, man. Check out fullbore site, and he shows, where/how to do it. Being 1mm over, you'll need to take no more than .020 off
