I have 2001 gti i took it in for service before going to the lake. I was tols that the impeller was bad and needed to be replaced so i had them do the repair . when i took it out it would only run about 15mph but if i go over a wake and get a little air it jumps up to 25 to 30 turn and it right back to 15. took it back to seadoo shop they have had it for 10 months and tell me they don't know whats wrong .bringing it home next week . need advice to do repair on my own.

it was running great we have serviced every year. when i took it back they wanted to rebuild the carb and that was a waste of money. the manger of the shop said there was another ski like mine their with the same problem and they were going to repair that one and let me know what thay found

whats your rpms?

Your impellor can be WAY wrong, your wear ring is bad, missing the neoprene seal, ride-plate needs sealed....all these can contibute to your problem, especially if your getting high/normal rpms. Also could be your carbs are messed up/settings not correct.

I'm in Placentia, but just did work in Woodland Hills.

You don't matter....

This is my "soap box" problem. I'm going to refrain from climbing up on it but basically, your ski was there for 10 months because there was no money to be made on it.

With the 717cc engine, there is nothing difficult about troubleshooting this engine and drive train. I see Seadooya is asking the rpm, this is because it sounds like you might have a bad wearing ring.

Your post is lacking in details for anyone to do a good troublshoot of your problem. They had it for 10, hang out in the forum for 1 and I'll be you get it running.

I've got to stop here before I get upset of the obvious screwing this repair facility has dealt you. I only hope you didn't pay them anything. If so, I'd demand that they give you your money back.

Your impeller was the easy way out. Chances are, there wasn't anything wrong with it. You can get the newly remanu for $25 bucks, which is what they probably did............

Could be Sticky

Just replace the sticking needle/seat and insure fresh gas with a little Stabil, its
a carb problem, so open it up slowly as the diaphram can stick then you'll need a kit.
Get a pop-off tester and leak down test it after re-assembly and re-install it.

There is more often than not a problem inside a carbureator, typically, those problems are water sitting in the carbs rusting up stuff, needle and seat valves that are stuck shut, diaphrams that are stiff old and hard, sometimes vulcanized ( glued ) to the diaphram cover plates so they can barely move inward to open the needle valves when necessary, or just partially open the needle valve which reduces fuel flow, gasoline/oil varnished internal carb parts, clogged internal filters, bad fuel pump diaphrams, ect.ect.ect.
Then to add to the list, water in the bottom of the gas tank, or a gooey mess of hardened pre-mix oil that separated from the gasoline, a clogged up fuel selector valve, rotten fuel lines and last but not least, the wrong style inline fuel filter. The one small fuel pump that feeds one or two thirsty 720 carbs cannot put up with any restrictions caused by the wrong style inline fuel filter. Fuel should flow easily with 3-5 psi route pressure. Hope this helps.

i had the carb rebuilt by another shop and their was no change lots of rpm's but has no speed so thats when i took it back to the seadoo shop they inturn rebuilt the carb again ( wanted to get more money) so when i get it on tuesday when they open i'm taking it to the lake check if they messed it up even more than before. at that time i'll be able to say what size eng. and anything else. they gave me back an impellor that was all chewed up and was cut out of ski the inpellor looks smaller than the old one. it fells like a trans that slipping

Take the nozzel off when you get it home and measure the prop to wear ring clearance with a feeler gauge. .008 is good, .040 is bad.

Check your wearing ring. Your pump must maintain a certian amount of pressure. If you have a bad wearing ring it'll feel like your transmission is slipping. Only SeaDoo's don't have transmissions.:)

Yep, sounds like the pump to me. If you've got heaps of rpm and no mojo that could be it. Reading what you've written , if the dodgy shop has put in a different pump go back and demand your old one back. 10 months!!! Sorry to add fuel to your fire but thats just bloody ridiculous!!
Gary, download a manual off this forum and pull the pump yourself, ask around the guys on this forum will know who's who in your area and take the thing to a reputable Seadoo dealer.

I got my seadoo back today and hooked the hose to it and it has lots of power i'm going to charge battery tonight and take it to lake tomorrow to see if it has power in water. the seadoo shop said that they checked the impellor and wear ring and said that is the right one . I'll post tommow to say if it's doing any better

seal the ride-plate, also they're only 5 buks, pull the pump and install a "neoprene" seal between hull and pump, bolt pump back up and try in water.

I'm realy not sure but the ride-plate is very hard to remove it looks like the silicone is factory installed . I was looking at the shaft in front of the impellor and there is a grommet is it suppose to be tight to the flange and the grommet that the impellor rest on has cracks on it looks old I'm going to replace .them how do i check to see if pressure is right from the pump

Dip at a side ramp and run the motor on the trailor, feel the warmth of the water hoses flowing thru the motor, lift the throttle and see if the ski wants to jump off the trailer and over the tow car - keep the ropes on like you are breaking a young trotter.
