So I traded in my 05 RXT for a shiny new GTR215. The dealer had mentioned the service after the break-in period... And how it was $450. But, I've ready through the manual and it doesn't say anything about a post-break-in service. The service schedule starts at 25hrs. Is this something I really need to do or is it just the dealer trying to screw me?

After ten hours you should change the oil and check hose connections, look for leaks and things to that nature.

I took my new 09 in for the 10 hr check and they admitted to me all they do is check antifreeze level and change the oil. I specifically asked if they check torque on the head bolts, hose clamps, miscellaneous bolts, motor mounts ect ect. The answer was nope,,, we don't do that kind of thing, just change the oil and check antifreeze level.

I paid them to change the oil and filter and took it upon myself to check the skis (I have two) out mysself.

So unless they can give you a list that REALLY justifies the service, just change the oil in my opinion.

Congrats on your purchase...

That's kinda what I figured. I have an oil evacuator and all... So I do that stuff myself. I was just curious if there was something specific that they look for that would be too much of a PITA for me.

In my case, nothing special. I think it is worth calling your dealer to see if they have a different standard.

I could never justify paying that much for it. I'd ask the dealer is servicing it yourself will void the warranty. Some dealers are prices about it, others are pretty lenient.

.... I'd ask the dealer is servicing it yourself will void the warranty. .......

It can't. In the USA, they can't put a "Monopoly" on service or parts. it falls under the moss Ferguson warranty act of 1975. The only time they can tell you it will void the warranty is if they were going to provide the service for free.

AND.... for anyone who has put aftermarket parts on a vehicle, and been worried about warranty... it's the same deal. If they want to refuse a warranty claim based off an after market repair or parts... the manufacture has to prove the part of service cased the issue.

But personally... If I bought a new ski... I would beat up the dealer a little, and make the first oil change part of the deal.

My first oil change WOULD have been free. But I bought them in Kalamazoo Michigan and I live on Ohio. So the local dealer would not do so for free...

Oh well, saved thousands of dollars by buying them up north. Worth the loss of an oil change I guess..

One of the reasons I bought the new one was the extended warranty. And since I live in Florida, our laws require that they give me the full warranty, not the "BEST" thing that has the deductible of $50. :-)

Few parts can be bought for 50 bucks,,, worth every penny if you ever need it...

While I'm here... I searched but no luck... You guys have any recommendation for a good wax ? I ride in salt a lot and I want to keep her slick and shiny.

You need a can of that stuff that Griswald used on the saucer sled... That would do it...
(If I wasn't flying I'd be inserting a YouTube video here,, LOL).

The text in the owners manual trumps anything that the dealer tells you as far as maintenance schedule/warranty goes. My only issue is, in the maintenance chart in the manual says "to be performed by D " (dealer). It says later in the manual that warranty cannot be solely denied due to lack of maintenance reciepts so WTF ? Talk about a mixed message written ambiguously so that they can dick you around ?

Well I work for a dealer, and we use the 10-17 hour rule. Our full 50 hour service is only $200.00. Im not sure how some dealers are charging so much for a service. Im sure some of you know this but just in case you didn't. Seadoo's are not fully unlocked until 17 hours.. Everything is kept bottled up, and the more you ride the more it wakes up......At 17 hours its fully un locked.

$450 for an oil and filter change, complete inspection and pump service/check?

I'll even change your plugs and gap the new ones, so can I be your dealer, please! :)

I really like the Meguiar's mirror glaze swirl remover on gel coat, although I've not really found something to resolve the yellowing stain of the white gel coat I find near the water line, might try something else for that, like CLR maybe?:
