Hello,

I am a new member here. i got a 96 gtx. it run fine until i capsized it. it doesnt start anymore. I tried to get water out but failed. I brought it to a mechanic. He looks kinda shady. But he is the only marine mechanic around my area that i know of.

Anyways, i brought it to him and he told me that the jet ski fuel diagrams or diaphrams were broken/damaged. he said the engine will not start because too much fuel is being dumped into the engine. He told me it would cost me 100 dollars to fix the problem. He will replace the diagrams or diaphrams. I said okay. he got it started.

I paid 100 dollars. And took it to the bay today. 5 minutes of running the engine bogged and stopped running. A buddy towed me in.

I checked the relay to see if water got in. nothing. I check the battery to see if it is still good. The battery still good. I took the spark plugs out and i saw that he removed the metal end of the spark plugs. I believe doing so will cost the engine to fire but it will run hotter than normal. I have to replace the spark or it will burn a hole in my cylinder. Anyways, i replace both spark plugs and it doesnt start.

It seems to me like the engine is not getting fuel to start.

anyways have any thought. thanks

Did he tell you that he removed the tip of the plug or did it break off?

Just a thought, if the tip broke off, could it be jammed between the piston and wall?

Does it have spark and will it crank but not start?

How did run during those 5 minutes?

Oh. i am not talking about the tip where the spark is. I am talking about the tip where it connected to the coilwire.

the spark plugs have spark

it will crank with the spark plugs out but it will not fire when i plug the start plugs back in.

i heard a single knock like it want to start but it doesnt start.

I was thinking of replacing all of the wires in the jet ski

Its prob The ground wire is rotten....or possibly the power. Its also possible the starter got some water in it. No water shooting out when you crank w/o plugs I take it?

How much water did the boat take on?

just a little.

i was able to get the jetski started. just like 30 minutes ago.

I believe it is has nothing to do with starter or battery. I think it is the fuel line deteriorating. I am going to replace all of the lines? but i am not sure about it. should i replace all or just the fuel line the GRAY one that every body is talking about?

The fuel lines have nothing to do with the engine turning over. You need 20ft of 1/4" and it should be done...but its not the source of the issue.

Also pull apart and clean the fuel selector switch.

It's possible that water got into the starter while it was flooded. You can pull it and look inside. If rusted then rebuild it....either way I might rebuild it since it's off.

You bought new plugs....did you re-gap them to between .020 & .024 inches or about .5 mm?

Hello,

I pulled the starter out but no rust.

before i pull it out this happened. The started the ski and let it idle but it cant idle more than 15 seconds. it turned off by itself. i start the engine again and give it some gas. and then turn the water on. it cannot idle. i have to give it a little gas in order to keep it running.

Any thought on that?

I am tired of this ski and wanting to get a new one.

It could be a carb problem. Have you checked the internal carb filters and the one under the hood.

Does it have the gray Tempo fuels lines?

I have a feeling that the mechanic didn't repair them correctly. Did he only just replace the diaphragms?

Hopefully Dr. Honda, minnetonka4me, or one of the other experts here will reply.

start with the basics, check your compression. engines with low compression will have a hard time idling and a very difficult time starting and then run poorly and bog. report back with the numbers and we'll go from there.

Agreed...compression test first.

The not idling could be just needing an idle adjustment...but more than likely your carbs are dirty and need to be rebuilt. New genuine kits, and needles and seats, and new fuel lines are needed on pretty much every machine from the 90s. Grey lines...they gotta go. Even if they arent the issue its a piece of mind thing for me.

The actual cranking issue not turning over...thats electronic. if you know for sure there isnt any liquids in the motor.

i just rebuilt the carb.

i think it has the old fuel line

and i felt like the mechanic didnt repair anything. he said he did but everything look exactly the same. the diaphrams was not touched. that is what i suspected

the carb was just rebuilt.

and how do you adjust the idling?

i am thinking of replacing all of the hoses...

Water got in a little but then when i pulled the starter, no rust or anything in it. But the mechanic told me to replace the starter. He said it cant start becuase the starter is wearing out.

sounds like your guy is clueless. If he would have done it right it would have cost a lot more, but it would have been right.

If you plan on owning it a while...I recommend you completely clean and rebuild the carbs, change the fuel lines, and clean out the selector valve. I would also open up both the front and rear ebox and check for water, clean all power and ground connections, clean the rave valves, change the pump oil, and grease the PTO/driveshaft.

There is a screw under the mag carb...thats the idle screw. There is a hole in the cable bracket to stick a screwdriver to reach it.

the carb was rebuil in September. I paid 600 dollars to the other mechanic. He completely rebuilt the carb.

>>> i want to own it a little longer but it cost too much already. I rather buy another one. But i will try to fix it myself first. Do you know where i can get a manual? not the instruction manual but repair manual. Thank you

Gotta tow the site line here...;)

If you become a premium member you have access to almost every manual out there.

Or...just think creatively...lol

Already paid a mechanic to start it. it start but it doesnt start like it used to. he siad it is the starter. I pulled the starter knowing that it cannot be the starter since i just replaced it not a year ago. Replace new starter!!! not working. I am thinking the gas line! something is blocking the gas to the engine.

check this site out for fuel lines www.fuel-line.net they have colored transparent lines for about $0.50 a foot. I would also change those small white oil lines on your oil pump they become brittle and crack. This site has that as well. I believe your fuel lines are 1/4 inch id and the oil lines are 1/8 inch id. They have clear, blue, red, orange, yellow, and green and they are transparent so you can see the fluid move through them. I bought 100 ft of fiel line and 25 ft of oil line, worked out great. You wont need near that amount maybe buy the 25 ft of fuel line for $11.99 and the 7 ft of oil line $4.99 and you will have alot of extra of each. I had a few machines to do
