I have a crank thats out of a block any ideas of how remove the pto?

With it not being in the block its difficult

What I did was put the crank back into the crankcase and put a 4x4 block of wood between the rods and took a tire off a car and use the cars weight as a vice. With a little heat it came right off with a chain wrenchimage.jpg

Clever! I would opt for lost paint as opposed to taking a chance on ripping out the splines. As Bill says, it is covered or a can of spray paint is pretty cheap.

i just went through this.
Mine may have been stuck really bad, i dont know.

But i ended up cutting the pto flywheel off using a angle grinder. I may be the only one to ever do that, but i paid 40 dollars for a new flywheel.
Plus all new bearings on the outside of the crankshaft, which were ok before we started fighting with the flywheel.
I had to be really carefull with the grinder.

Mine took a 3 foot chain wrench and i had to stomp on it.

I would have much preferred to use the impeller tool, the chain wrench took 2 people and a lot of coordination to jump on it.

It's it common for the splines to strip?
