Possilbe problem encountered when winterizing 2002 GTI LE

I was winterizing my pair of 2002 GTI LE's. I fogged them both yesterday so after work today I decided to put in the antifreeze. I clamped off the lines like instructed, disconnected the water inlet hose, connected a short hose and funnel through which I poured the antifreeze. A short time later, antifreeze came out the small drain hole on the front left of the craft. HERE

So, I let it set for a minute then disconnected the clamps and let the remainer of the anti-freeze drain out.

I proceeded to sea-doo #2 and followed the same procedure. But, when I poured the anti-freeze in it started coming out right where the large black hose runs from the engine block to what I'm assuming is the exhaust manifold. You can see the black hose here.

The anti-freeze appeared to be coming from right where the hose connects to the exhaust manifold (am I calling it the correct thing?) I figured maybe there was a hole in the hose. Unfortunately I was wrong. After damn near crawling inside the craft I noticed there was a hole in the gray colored pipe, directly behind the black hose.

So, can someone explain to me what this is and how I need to get it fixed? Thanks for looking.

That 720 tuned pipe will need to be removed, and drilled, cleaned and Tig welded.
There are four of those where the internal water coil was welded at the factory.
They commonly internally corrode from the welding process.

Ok Bill, remember my ignorance on these issues (mechanically ignorant but willing to learn). Is the 720 tuned pipe the large gray pipe with the hole in it or is it the larger black rubber tubing with everything attached to it?

Would if be easier and comparable in price to replace the gray section of pipe? What is that called?

Forgive my ignorance. I'm not very familiar with this stuff but do enjoy tinkering but want to do it correctly. I appreciate the help.

The Tuned Pipe is what has the hole in it.

And, yes, it may just be easier to replace the pipe as opposed to welding it as I take it you are not set up with a welder in your garage. :)

You should replace the gasket between the exhaust manifold and tuned pipe as well and apply some sealant to it.

Since I know you are going to ask..:p...the exhaust manifold sits between the tuned pipe and the engine. (see the 3 shiny (stainless) hex bolts in your pic..should be a 4th one hidden behind the pipe too)

You should be able to get a used one on ebay or here (sell/trade forum) for under $100. Usually that includes the tuned pipe and the pipe cone. I have seen them sell for as low as ~$50. One thing with used is that you risk getting one that is close to corroding out like yours, especially if it was parted from a salt water machine.

New is probably going to be close to $500. Personally, I would go the route of taking it to a professional welder as Bill suggested before I did that.

A professional welder shouldn't charge you more than $100 either, depends on the shop/person. You may find someone willing to do it for under $50.

Well, that will give me another winter project to attack! I'd like to have it up and running like it should come spring time. I appreciate the help. Greg

Also, and I can't seem to find it now, but somewhere on the internet I saw a how-to repair guide with pics for repairing the pipe yourself with JB Weld or some sort of epoxy (can't remember).

It is up to you to find...I am done for the night.

Thanks. I found that one late last night while searching from my browser. I think I'll try the JB Weld first with the reassurance that I can always remove the pipe and have it welded if I have to. Thanks for linking them.
