My grandfather and I bought my 94 xp brand new and I have been the owner and operator since. It has run great for years in fresh water in the same lake. We winterized it and changed the plugs every summer. The last 5 years or so, it has been kept in a barn under a cover. It still looks like it did 18 years ago, but when I put it in the water last year after its long nap, it was having some issues. I put new plugs, gas, and seafoam treatment into the fuel. It ran like a champ for about an hour and I was very impressed. Although after that, it would run full throttle and then bog to idle. it would bog for a minute and then open up again. Eventually, it went dead and took a few minutes to restart. I pulled it and stored it again in fear of what was happening. I don't have much mechanical experience, but I have a huge emotional connection with this boat and never intend to sell it. I'm also afraid to take it to a mechanic in fear of high repair costs. I'm hoping to be able to repair it myself, but don't know where to start. I figured this forum was full of fellow seadoo owners who may have had the same or similar problems and I need some help. Where should I begin?? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi and welcome to the SeaDoo Forum.

I suspect that you still have the original grey "Tempo" fuel lines. If so they need to be changed to 1/4" black automobile hoses along with cleaning or replacing the fuel control valve, water separator/fuel filter, and carb. filters. You probably also need to rebuild the carburetors. The problem with the old fuel lines is modern gasoline has ethanol which actually devolves the glue that bonds the hose together leaving a green goo throughout the fuel system.

Rather than re-invent the wheel here's a thread that pretty much goes into the whole process, the only place that I differ is I use quality 1/4" cable ties instead of the metal hose clamps.

Also you also might want to check the compression it should be in the 135-150psi range with no more than 10% difference between the two readings.
