Gang,

own a 96 speedster and wanted to replace the 2 batteryy system to a one battery unit. i was looking for some info with regards to the double + and - wire system which i have now with the 2 batteries. Once i go to the single Battery can i run the 2 + and 2- wires together to the single Battery posts ? or will this be an issue if i did?

thanks for any feedback as i really would like to do any with the 2 battery system.

If your running two batteries with the two positive and negative wires, that means your using a battery selection switch. You can put the wires together as you suggested, then put your selector to "all". Or, you can remove all the wiring from the battery and selector switch, and only attach the red wire to the positive of your battery, going to your solenoid, and the black wire to the starter bracket for ground. Either way, you will have no ill affects on your charging circuit. But, having two batteries is better than having one, if you are using your selector switch properly.

The biggest reason for two batteries is for hangin out on the beach or sand bar. When the boat is running, you have the selector switch to "all". This way, both are being charged from your magneto. When you pull up to the beach, you'd put your selector on one of two switch selections, like "#1". This will allow you to drain that battery while cranking out your tunes, without the worry of being stranded from a dead battery. When you are ready to go, swap to "all" or "#2" and start the motor. In my opinion, it's like having a spare magneto in an airplane.

thanks boss...one issue..there isnt any selector switch that i can see anywhere that allows to switch from 1 to all...unless this switch is hidden somewhere hard i dont think there is one..so without having this so called switch i cant place the 2 + and - cables together on the single battery i want to install correct?

if this switch is after market then its not there. any feed back would be great if i could just attched the 2 cable system to a single battery without any system issues. would like to run the 2 postives together on the one post and same with the negitives on a sigle batter

Thanks

has anyone got any more info to this as i will be doing the same thing and i also dont have a selector switch? same boat 1996 seadoo speedster? i am sick of having dead batts all the time they are too small and want something larger with more reserve capacity.

why would this mod not be a good one? if you put in a better batt than the two of them combined it should be better?

I have no idea why or why not. Maybe someone else will speak up here. I was just reading articles I found. The search feature is your friend. Click on the quick links in th upper right then advanced search. I used single battery for my search. I'm not saying to do this or not as I have no experience with it. Let me know how it works if you do it.

Lots of people do this. Everyone that I know that has done it has liked it better. You are getting rid of 2 small PWC batteries and adding a much larger single marine battery.
