Oil tank seam leaks..... Common problem?

You used to be able to semi-custom build a nice setup on Jettrim's site. Their current site seems rather lacking.

Winter 2008-2009 I ordered a new 4-color seat cover for my RX. Silver/Silver over Yellow and Black. Really like the setup and contrasts. Don't like that I picked a cloth type material for the lower sides as it is already wearing through and fading. The rest of the cover is great. The Silver had a fish scale sort of texture and was super comfy and always cool. Sorry for the long shots here.

You might need eye bleach if you look at the third pic. Let's just say the evening prior was quite eventful and wagers were made (and lost.)

Brutal, those are good looking seats!

The panels where definitely placed in the right spots to flow with the body of the ski. After looking at jettrims website, I think they are targeting the late model skis, not the older ones that need replacements because of age. Just how the website appears anyway?

Do you recall if your oem cover was glued to the foam pad? I am guessing the multi paneled covers are not real waterproof?

ragtop,
You can seal the seams from the inside with silicone sealer prior to installing the seat cover. Saw it on youtube :)

I wonder how long that lasts? I have done a few of the older skis with one piece of marine vinyl, & it was pretty easy. The toughest one I have done, (my fourth) was my GSX. Not only was the original cover bonded to the foam, it was difficult to stretch it in the right places to get all the wrinkles out. I got it & it looked nice, but was a total PITA! On that ski, the cover had two small tears in it that let water in, But not out. IT smelled like a deceased wet dog once separated. I had to let the foam dry out for a while before installing the new cover.

I will pull some of the staples from the seat today & see if its bonded like the GSX was. I sure hope not. The oem cover is actually in nice shape, it cleaned up nice with no rips or anything, but its just just ugly IMO.

LOL that is exactly what I am going to do today with my 96xp resto. Good luck!

The same pattern is available under their "your custom design" for the RX. Someone said earlier that they can probably do a custom color for most of those designs.

I don't recall the OEM cover as being glued down.

I've drowned and flipped that ski so many times it's insane. never noticed any waterlogged seat issues. Use Seam Sealer on the inside stitching I guess if you're worried about it.

They used to have a form you could download, then fill out the form and enter which material you wanted from the swatches. Then fax or email it to them.

I Just stumbled on it. Not real easy to navigate in the website IMO.

Biggest problem I see is the incredible amount of vinyl types & colors available. If they aren't sure what colors match the gray & yellow on the ski,
I sure as heck have no clue. Hhhmmmmm.

I think you can order samples. Yes, their website is not the best.

Ran across this thread about the time I was to pressure test my oil tank. First, the top grommet is so loose it ain't gonna hold any, but in the process I found this:

So, yeah the seam leaks. Now I'm pretty sure the tank has never been out of the boat. This must be a factory "repair".

Just gonna leave it :)

How do you plug the 2 big holes in the top & bottom in order to pressure test it?

Is that repair, silicone?

I know your question was directed to Lake Sailer, But I use a small section of rubber from a cutup inner tube & a hose clamp. Works great.
I leave the level sensor & grommets in so I can test those too.

Well, I was gonna leave the bottom grommet in, that's the one that counts :)

I've got a few rubber plugs that just happen to fit the top grommet, and the filler neck.

Don't think silicone, it seems too hard, don't know what it is, know it didn't work :)
