Oil/Gas Ratio Please Help

I am needing to know what fuel to gas ratio I should run on a 2001 GTI. I have heard everything from 32/1 to 40/1 to 50/1. Would someone please let me know what this year model requires. I have been running to 32/1 and I am consantly fouling the spark plugs, but I don't want to run to lean either. If anyone out there can tell me what they are running I would really appreciate it.

There is no specific oil/gas ratio for your ski, it applies to any motor, any of those are right. Unfortunately there is no way your going to foul spark plugs less with whatever mix you use, thats just the downfall of pre mixing. The oil pump works off how fast your engine is running, injecting anywhere from 20:1 at idle all the way to 50:1 ( or vice versa, i dont even know cuz i have my oil injection still ) at full throttle. So really when at idle etc your stuffing your engine with too much oil ( if your premixing ) thus fouling the plugs. Id run 40:1, theres no real chance of lean condition with pre mixed as long as theres a couple of quarts in the oil injection tank.

let me try and get this right this time...:ack:

16oz oil to 4gal = 32/1
16oz oil to 5gal = 40/1
16oz oil to 6gal = 50/1

Mix it at 40:1. I assume you have the oil injection removed. Also, I always use 25:1 on the first tank during break-in on a rebuilt engine.

Thanks for the information. I will try using a 40:1 ratio. I would rather use the injection system but I have a feeling it was the culprit of why I had to rebuild the engine in the first place. Anyone know what is the best way to check to see if an injection system is working properly?

Yup, usually I can just "float' the gears, but i think i need to start pumping the clutch...:)

Typically, when the engine is at an idle and you push the oil injector pump cable disk full open, it will smoke like crazy and almost bog down. This will tell you it is pumping oil. The really big question is, it's really hard to know if it's pumping the proper amount at the correct rpm range. In the manuals is a test to check the pump, but it isn't real accurate. If you really want to continue with injector use, just replace it if in doubt. They cost like $165.00 if memory serves me right. Be sure the oil pump is the exact problem of a rebuild and not just guessing it caused the engine problem. I haven't see many oil pumps fail...maybe a broken brittle oil line, broken cable, or human error.

I looked at ordering some parts on the website you suggested and they do have good prices, but the part number does not match the numbers I have in my shop manual. I tried to locate a contact number to verify the part number but they don't have a contact number posted on their website. Do you know how to contact this company by phone? Also a parts guy at my local Seadoo dealer said that Seadoo stops making parts for Seadoo's older than 5 years old. Is this true and if so how do you go about finding parts if Seadoo no longer makes them?

In the older manuals, you'll see a lot of different part numbers that are no longer available. That is due to the way the parts system has changed since these manuals first came out in the 90's.

Now, the HLSM's are controlling the part index with the proper part numbers. Most of the older part numbers have been either discontinued or succeeded by the newer part numbers you are seeing.

If you order to your specific ski/boat and year from the Seadoowarehouse, you'll get the proper part.:cheers:
