I have my Seadoo 94 xp 657x set up with an oil block off plate for pre mix. Wiht the jugs off I was filling the line that feeds the bath. I have it looped with about 2' of clear hose split so I can fill and monitor the oil. I was filling the lower hose with blue 2 stroke oil and holding the upper hose above that level. I expected to see oil filling the crank case which was not the case. It just flowed out the upper hose. The oil that was in the bottom of the crankcase was black so from a previous fill I assume. Am I missing something here? Isn't the oil bath supposed to lubricate the crank? Why shouldn't I see it filling the crankcase?
Thanks,
Beads

The injection oil lubricates the crank, the oil bath is just for the RV gears & bearings.

I am not a big fan of going premix on RV engines. the oil injectors are placed right in front of the valve for good reason. Did your pump fail, oil lines break? why did you pull it off?

Yes the oil injection line broke off. I've been running premix for several seasons. So if the oil injection system is not intact what lubricates the crank now?

O.K., just a couple of things, normally oil that is injected into the engine lubricates the crank bearings. In a 2-stroke the crank bearing are ball bearings and don' t require as much oil a friction bearings in a 4-stroke engine. When you convert to premix oil that's already mixed with the fuel lubricates the crank bearings.

The oil that's feeding into the engine lubricates the rotary valve gear and bearings, and normally would return to the oil tank. Since the oil tank has been removed the oil returns to the 2' of clear hose that you have added. If you are using blue 2-stroke blue oil you are using TC-W3 oil which is the wrong oil, you should be using API-TC low ash rated, either mineral or synthetic blend oil. If I were making the conversion (personally I probably wouldn't), I would have left the tank in the ski, or added some kind of smaller tank. Just my 2 cents.

Hi Lou,
Thanks for the help. I got the ski back together, changed the bath oil to your advised type and it runs great. I do still have the oil tank in place and could easily connect it again. What are the advantages of that set up?
Thanks,
Mark

The advantage of having the oil tank is you never have to worry if there is enough oil to lubricate the RV cavity, just put a quart in the oil tank and you'll have oil for years.

Plus.......the biggest plus, if for some reason you crank seals leak or a line breaks or comes off you'll get the oil warning light on your gauge.

Hi Lou,
Makes sense. I'll get some more hose and reconnect the tank next weekend. Thanks for all the advice and information.
