I just bought a 1996 Xp and out on the water the 1st time it ran fine for 15 min but when i shut it off and restart it it gets up on a plane for about 2sec then boggs down....it runs better at idle than it does when i give it gas.
It has newer fuel lines not old grey ones. Just changed plugs and gaped to .025. Drained fuel and premixed to 32:1. Carbs look clean but i have no idea if they have ever been rebuilt or not.
Did all that went on water again and same thing.

Someone told me to clip plug wires 1inch and check foe exhaust leak by running with seat off and see if it stops the problem as gas fumes might be getting sucked back into intake manifold.

Also i dont hav efoot pads in footwells and there are a bunch of holes that water seems to be comming in through. I ordered hydro turf are ther plugs that go in those holes.

After about 15 min of normal riding and 15 min of it bogging down back to the boat ramp with my girlfriend on the back the hull was filled with water up to the drive shaft all the way to the oil tank.....could those holes be the problem or do i have bigger problems.

This is my first PWC so i dont know to much about all the termonilogy or what certain parts are so bare with me please. Thanks. Josh

alright stroke....got few issues. First, plug the holes up in the feet area w/ silicone/sealant..etc. Next, remove seat, and remove grey shield from back of motor. This will expose the carbon ring assy. If ur tak'n that much water on, then I'd say, the carbon ring is cracked or chipped. Look closely, you'll see the ring..it rides against the steel collar and is attached to the end of the accordian boot. In order to reomove that piece, you'll need to drop the pump assy..so, locate pump, remove the steering cable from nozzle, remove the VTS cable from top of nozzle, and if has reverse, remove the cable also. Now, remove the 4-17mm nuts, that you see up against the hull, then after removing those, pull on the pump. Now, go back inside motor, and push the steel collar toward back of ski, this will expose a "steel clip" that you need to pop off. Once popped off, then may need to undo the clamp, thats on the driveshaft, so you can now, remove the shaft, to replace the carrbon ring. Along with replacing the ring, take the steel collar and "lap" it on wet/dry sandpaper..preferably, fine paper. This should take care of the "leak" problem...or you forgot ur drain plug...:ack:

Now, to performance, think take this step mentioned first, then hit forum back up, because, you'll need to tear carbs off and go thru them.
