I'm looking to buy a 1997 seadoo gsx, everything seems fine, except the vts. The guy said he put a new vts motor in, but the vts still doesn't work. What else could it be if the motor is fine ? Thanks !
Didn't check the fuses , hopefully that's the problem, going to look at it again today , will check the fuses then. If the fuses are good, is it the connectors. If so, how costly and hard are they to fix?
The VTS is known to have issues relative the control module as well as the motor itself.
If the fuses and the motor is good, check the switch with a DVOM. If it is good, then you are in need of either a wiring issue of the control module...
There is a controller in the VTS housing. It's what tells the motor to stop as it reaches the end points... and sends the gauge the position info. SO... when the motor is starting to go bad... and it's blowing fuses... people have a tendency to just stick in another fuse without checking why it pop'ed. After a few fuses... the controller gives out.
So... check the fuse, but there is a chance that the problem is in the control unit.
If I can't get the trim to work, is there a way to place the trim in a set position. I'm not much on speed, just need a position for a smooth ride, what position should this be in.
The VTS is nothing more that a motor, much like a window motor in a car.
Unplug it, run a hot wire to one terminal and a ground wire to the other. The motor will move assuming the motor is good. If you want it to go the other direction, swap the wires around.
Use the battery as a ground as the ECM and other parts actually use ground as a trigger. By using JUST the battery you will have no issues.
