hey guys my uncle bought us a nice new snap on compression guage to replace our 30 dollar auto zone special, the results were way differnt,

ski 1
old gauge had 140psi, 140psi
new gauge had 15psi, 150 psi

ski runs good gets up to about 6900rpms and wil do 55 on a good day

ski 2 ( kinda concerned about it )
old gauge had 140psi, 130psi
new gauge had 152psi , 146psi

ski also runs great and will get up to 7000 plus rpms and do 55 on gps i am worried how this skis off so much between the 2 sides but it runs great. I would like to get threw this season if possible and do a topp end over the winter what do you guys think, i have been threw the carbs on both and they look good.

Hey Brandon,

I had a similar experience, I've got a compression gauge that I've had for years, doesn't even screw in the spark plug hole, you have to hold it in. I work at a GM dealership and when I bought the XP I borrowed a Snap On gauge from one of the mechanics. It showed like 74 on both cylinders. I knew this was wrong because the ski would run, I tried my old gauge it showed 147 on each cylinder. Go figure.

I asked the mechanic about it when I returned the gauge, he sent it to Snap On to get it re-calibrated.

Ya but its the cheapo gauge that don't show the good high numbers. The snap on ones numbers I like. Lol. It's brand new tho so should be right. I'm just worried about ski number 2 being far away on both gauges but it runs great hmmm.

If you think a gauge is wrong... just hook it to an air compressor with a known amount of pressure.

I have no issues with cheap gauges. Besides... when you drop your $300 jeweled movement Snap-on gauge... it's heart breaking.

lol ya i didnt pay for it my uncle has a account so he just added it to the thing, supose to have a warrinty and it has a rubber cover over the guage to help from dropping it, so what do you think about the difference in the compression tho in ski 2 it runs so good i cant see anything wrong with it.

awsome thanks Doc, i am just hoping to get this season out of it i dont mind doing a top end at the end of the season ya know.
