I just bought a decent 99 speedster with the dual 787 motors. I had it checked out before I bought and they recommended 3 things.

1) new voltage regulator on the right motor- part 76.00 and 1 hr labor at $75
2) new sending fuel unit- part 206 and labor 2.5 hrs
3) 50 hr service - 450 for labor

Do these quotes sound reasonable? I tried to look online for part prices and it looked like I could find the parts cheaper. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also the seats have minimum issues, but I they have a few of those black spots that are probably a mold or mildew. What is the best way to clean those? I will try to load a pic of the boat very soon!

WELCOME.....Congrats on your purchase you will be very happy with this boat. First i have a few questions....... what makes them think that you need all these parts...hence ... whats it doin....second this forum is full of very skilled and knowledgeable owners who can walk you through all of those repairs so you dont have to go to a STEALERSHIP and pay them.

welcome!!!! I agree, what's the boat doing? With just a little mechanical skills we can talk you through most repairs.

Thank you brock1! It's my first personal boat, although I have been on the lake a lot with friends and family.

When I had it checked out the right motor readings for the battery was in 17 to 18 range and the left was 13 to 14.
The fuel gauge isn't working, and it's not the wires they said its probably this but that quote was the "worst case" estimate as they said it would take take awhile to diagnosis the issue and I did not own the boat then. Finally, the service was recommended bc the owners hadn't driven it in 2 years, except for our test drive, and bc there was no record of any services beside winterizing and summering, new spark plugs, and oil being added. There are records from 1999 to 2002 where they orginal owner guy purchased the extended warranty and did all the original recommended services. Then it was sold in about 04 to someone I know and it was mostly keep in a garage until I bought it yesterday. I have been trying to get this person to sell me the boat for about 5 years so I may have the forum's longest negation period. They drove it very little, only a few times each year except it sat the last 2 years. We took it for a test ride and it fired up within a few trys after those 2 years. We also had them kill it, let it sit and start it again and it fired right up. The mechanic said it sounds fabulous, had even good compression, and the engines looked good. He even offered the owner the option for him to buy it.

Well sounds like you take the cake for longest purchase in the freakin world. JK At least you got a good machine if you dont mind me asking what did you pay for it. As far as the 450 dollars goes for maintenance that they are trying to charge you......if you go that way and have them do it make sure you tell them to use some kind of lubricant before they stick it too ya in my opinion!!!! With what they would do you could honestly do it for around 100 bucks on the HIGH end and only a few hours of your ime running back and forth to the compue=ter and asking us for help LOL. The 787 is a very easy going and easy to maintain engine. As far as the other things go the fuel guage not working is probubly because the float is stuck in the fuel rail inside the tank.... pull that long tube out of the tank and check to seee if the little plastic (BOBBER) moves freely and will float if it dosent then buy a new one for 15 bucks and your set.

I paid 6000. I will try to look at that fuel thing. We would love not to have to but as much money into it right of that bat. Thanks!

Although I live in Florida, I am flying into Nashville this afternoon. I arrive at 3:40PM. If you can pick me up at the airport, I will be happy to go out with you to test the boat!

Thanks. Does anyone know where, other than offline, I could get the regulator? I think a guy friend, who is a mechanic, can put it on. Also does anyone know my specific part number. I found a bunch online, but I wasn't sure it was exactly the right part.

I know that is an awesome offer, Unfortunatly my work meeting schedule is not cooperating. I have a number of a guy who is a member named Kyle and he fixes Seadoos around here as well. I am going to let him look it over again and reqoute some of the stuff. I am hoping that bn him and a guy friend who is a mechanic we can get these items done. I, myself, need to be taught hands on so I am timid to dive right in to fixing it without someone standing right there. Thanks everybody for your answer and help!!!

Not a problem. I just arrived and caught the Grayline to the Doubletree downtown.

Those repairs should be fairly doable for you. The fuel gauge on our boat didn't work when we got it but our son fixed it with instructions he got from the forum here. Good luck.

It's kinda funny I'm only 45 minutes north of Nashville today in bowling green visiting the wife who is down here for work.
