Welcome aboard.

There are many members in your general area. There are a few forums dedicated to Florida as well.

Do some digging in the forums and you will find plenty to interact with.

Congrats on the purchase...

2005 Seadoo Utopia 205 se

I am new to this forum, a potential first time boat owner, also and am currently looking at buying the same model boat you have. Are you happy with it? Any issues or problems? Someone on a different thread suggested getting a compression reading on the cylinders before purchasing a used jet boat. Did you do that and are there any other suggestions on what to look for before buying a used boat. I will hopefully test drive it this weekend, it was started up and there was no smoke or noise. The hull and interior are immaculate. It has about 300 hours on it per the seller. How do I verify that?
Thanks and I am very happy to have found this forum. There has been alot of great ideas on here.
Thanks to everyone who takes the time to post!!

Live in Avon. Where are you? Found a Marine shop called Dubberts in Port Clinton that services Mercruiser jet engines. Done any business with them?

I am in Strongsville area.

As far as Dubberts go, I was in a "unique" Coast Guard unit. In fact, hid all of our goodies not to far from you, Camp Perry area inside some "old looking" buildings. We had am open account with Dubberts. I am positive I have sent 40 to 50 grand with them through the 18 years I was in the area.

Any chance you will join us for the Cruise? It would be great to meet you.

Though I don't know just what yet, we are working on some Site Goodies to give to the members that join the ride....

Good to hear about Dubberts, appreciate the feedback about them. Thanks for your service, I was a Navy Corpsman for a while.
Cant join you on this Cruise. I haven't even bought the boat yet! Not sure if you have seen my other posts here. I am looking at a 2005 Seadoo Utopia 205se and have been looking on this forum for people that have them for their input on how the boat has been for them.
There are supposedly 340 hours on it and I was wondering if I should take it to Dubberts for an inspection before buying it. The seller is the first owner, he is a gear head, and he has taken excellent care of it. The issue is timing, I have a 2000 Challenger ready for me to purchase today when I found the Utopia for sale. Its a much nicer boat for not much more money. I really would like a boat by next Friday, we have a week long vacation planned down on Pleasant Hill Lake, but the seller might not be able to make this transaction happen that quick due to some legitimate personal reasons right now. So... I am debating whether to just buy it and pray for the best with the Utopia (a $15,000 gamble), buy the challenger, or slow down and wait for the seller to have time to get it inspected. Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks

See if he will "Rent" it to you for the weekend and apply the money to the sale. Or even 80 percent of the money. As long as it is insured it legally wouldn't be an issue...

I like the 05 with the optimax, mine only has 100 hours on it. Still I just had to rip he pump apart and rebuild the wear ring... Great boat and motor... Just pricey for parts

I went through a shollow area and after I tried to get the boat on a plane and it would rev up the motor and drag water... I could put around at idle without an issues, but I couldn't gain speed... Took the wear off the impeller and found that there was some pitting in from of the impeller, after doing research on this site I determined that the scoring was enough to cause cavatation. Instead of buying a new wear ring for 500.00 I elected to rebuild the pitted area with jb weld... It's going back together today..

Thanks for the info. Good luck with the rebuild! I am going to test drive the boat tonight and will let you know how it goes.

So, I wound up buying the Utopia. Great boat! fast and responsive at speed, tough to learn how to dock at idle sped though! Just wanted to share a couple issues for others to maybe learn from.
When I first took it out, ran it for 20-30 minutes and it would stall dead in the water. It would restart right away and I noticed a little shakiness in the boat which I mistook for cavitation. First thing was worried about the impeller, pulled it out and nothing in there. Got it to a certified Mercruiser dealer (wanted computer checked), Dubberts, thanks Coastiejoe. No warning codes on the computer, only 136 hours on the boat, 100 of them at idle speed!! Needless to say the plugs were all fouled, replaced them all and the fuel filters and it now runs great.
Thanks again for everyones input! How is yours running Evilskywalker? love the name!
