I just brought home a brand new 08 speedster. I have tried the DESS key many, many times, only once got 2 beeps. The display lights up, says welcome aboard, then goes dark. While this is happening I can hear what must be the fuel pump running to buildi fuel pressure. For a period of time after this all the fuses in the rear panel have power, everything else, the radio, pumps and lights are working fine. I pulled the battery to check the charge, have been all through what I can find with a test light, pulled out the neutral safety switch and checked it with an ohm meter. The deal happened fairly quick at the dealer on Fri afternoon, the dealer is a 6 hr drive away, my closest dealer is a 2 hr drive. And it's our long weekend here. Anyone got an idea what's wrong?
Thanks for any help.

Have the battery load tested. It may appear to power things but may not be enough. On a new boat under warranty, i wouldnt go poking around too much. I honestly would expect them to fix the issue, either come to me or make up for my hassle to take it somewhere.

:agree:

By poking around... they may deny warranty work.

Personally I'd call them and tell them to send someone to you since it's a brand new boat.

I know it sux... but if it's not something obvious... the dealer needs to take car of it.

Personally, it sounds like the computer isn't reading your lanyard. Any MPEM lanyard will get the computer to kick on... but on the right one will give you beeps and let you start the boat.

By any chance... did they give you 2 lanyards?? if so, try the second one. (even if i's the learning lanyard)

There was a bit of plastic left on the inside of the DESS tether, not making a connection. Easy fix, thanks for the tips.

Found the issue, but still really have to wiggle and push on the DESS to get it to work even half of the time. I'm sure thats not right.

I have yet to see a DESS that feels like it is connected how it should be. I hate them almost as bad as the beeper itself! The good ol days of a key is WAY better IMHO.

Problem found, just posting in case someone else runs into this(rare)problem. Got to where it seemed to work about 8 times out of ten, so we hit the water. The first trip was good for about 10 minutes, until the engine started shutting down on it's own. Sometimes it would run for 20 seconds, sometimes for two. After much frustration and some paddeling, off to the dealer. Turns out the DESS post was the problem. Parts ordered should be good to go for next weekend.

The key on mine is tight as well and sometimes it is a pain but I do like the safety feature where it is easy to disable in an emergency.
