the more I follow this thread the more I like my dry top :) best $50 I ever spent actually...

i'm generally warm and toasty vs my ride buddies on the cold weather rides....

So Nick, does this go over the PFD? or does the PFD go over the tour coat? As I said earlier, I've got a similar Jet Pilot tour coat, the PFD has to go over the coat, very uncomfortable to ride.

Good point...they are made oversized but you would need a pretty snug vest.

You busted me..I havent actually tried it yet!

these are mine, lightweight dry tops, black one is a seagull, for mild/windy day, burgendy NRS jacket is for colder/windier, a little thicker. velcro on neck and hands, and draw string on the waistline, if its really cold I layer a tank top and a long sleeve shirt under, + neoprene jacket, your bone dry underneath even when taking full on face shots of water spray.

Lou, i think your right, that does look to be the ultimate solution. But ya that price is about double what i was looking to spend lol. There is alot of good input on here for different options so far, its getting harder and harder for me to decide now :banghead:
 
my seadoo jacket is very much like that. except mine is not inflatable, but it has the floatation device built in. they doubled in price these days, wow!

1) I bought Lou's tour coat for boating purposes, but i'll try it out on the pwc the next cold weekend as well and see how if like/dislike

2) Talked to my ex coastie brother about the float coat, he used them on the cutters around the docks, said he loved them right up until they got wet, then he said they were extremely uncomfortable, you were wearing a big, cold, wet nylon jacket at that point, and said he didn't like it at all. So he talked me out of that option.
 
received Lou's tour coat via UPS this morning, pranced around my office wearing it for a couple of minutes, and I like it.. !

I think its tight enough yet loose enough to be a good fit, and i'll try it under a PFD just for curiosity, and most definitely bring it out on the boat with me...to wear as a water resistant jacket, we'll see how I feel about it when the cold wind hits me in the chest.

It will be hot, like 85 degrees this weekend, so bad time to test it out, but next cold front,,, this baby is going with me !

well,,, Sunday I took a ride in northern florida, it was maybe 57 degrees with pretty cold water temps when we took off from the ramp...

I had a simple t-shirt, the jacket, with a neoprene PFD over the top and I had zero issues with being splashed (took a face full early on in the ride and shrugged it off with no effect)

I had my neoprene Jacket on and I was very warm and comfortable, I didn't feel restricted in any way

I was still wearing it as the weather turned more favorable, when we started the 2nd ride, it was probably pushing 68 degrees (on land) but still with cold water temps, and a chilly breeze, even at 70mph, the jacket shrugged off the wind, it was quite comfortable, and the sleeves didn't flap in the wind at all like the thinner dry tops tend to do...

if I have any complaints about the JT tour coat it would be these two things.




1) the velcro on the wrist straps isn't quite long & wide enough inside for a good tight wrap around the wrists, a bit of a loose fit, but i'm going to either a) modify the velcro so I can get a nice snug fit around the wrist, or use the velcro wrap straps to just snug it down over the top....

2) the hood isn't really that comfortable, it kind of comes down too far over the forehead and I didnt' like the way it tied... , I tried it on but didn't like the way it fit so I just ended up using a standard ball cap and tucking the hood under the life jacket. maybe it would work ok if worn over the ball cap and adjusted just right, but for riding at speed, IMO the hood wasn't perfect. (with that said, I really haven't had a jacket with a hood that I liked)

would I buy it again? absolutely...

will I sell it ? hell's no !

So the large fit over top of your vest ok? About what size are you? I'm 6 foot, 160 pounds (skinny stick) lol, what size would u recommend??

I wore it Under the vest.

i'm 5-9 170 and a pretty skinny frame, but even if I added 15+ lbs all up top i'd still be just fine.

I think its a large, i'll have to 2x check when i get home...

it possibly could be worn over the vest, vs under, but honestly I never tried that...

I was definitely feeling no restrictions wearing it under the pfd.

also,, at 5'9" it still was a little long, so even at 6' you'll be fine... no worries there.

ya... then its a med... and its pretty good sized, I think the large would be overkill IMO...

I can try it on OVER a pfd if that helps somebody, but I can't see a good reason to wear it that way
 
when we started this conversation I poked around ebay a little bit and found one (XL) for $50, so if your patient, you might stumble across one, or maybe post a WTB here or pwctoday, there's a good shot a member or 3 has one that fits your needs for half price, and they'll be glad to sell it and get it out of their closet. (I sure wish somebody wanted to buy like 4 life jackets from me lol)

Last year I bought a Slippery Tour Coat to use in colder weather, works great blocks the wind and keeps me dry even after getting soaked. Money well spent for cooler weather gear. It's made to fit over a life jacket, I'm 6'2" 230lbs and a L/XL fits me nicely.
