Ok, first off I have a 1997 speedster twin 717's, single carb.

When I hit the gas, I have to push it very slowly until the rpm's get up past 3000 or so or else it will die. Before and after that its fine. I have the carb off and my question is what parts do I need to order to rebuild the carb.

Thans in advance

You will need to order oem carb kits. Do not order aftermarket they are garbage. When you order oem mikuni kits they generally come with all gaskets and diaphragms. They do not come with the needle and seat but unless yours are damaged there is not need to replace them.

a kit usually runs about $40. you have 2 carbs per motor correct? if so than you have a total of 4 carbs and will need 4 carb kits. hope this helps

Lou, you forgot the link to the thread!?!?!?!?

Oh wait, I see you just posed it a couple minutes ago. you might be "fetching" it now.
My clock at home reads 6:44pm I guess the forum clock is still on EST and not DST.

I would say if your going to rebuild 1 carb you minus well do both... since theres only 2 carbs to do it wont be very hard and shouldn't cost more than $80 to do. you wouldn't want to rebuild one and have the other motor's carb act up months later or something. just my .002

Dr Honda nailed it.
The accelerator pump isn't working on that carb. There is a check valve in the nozzle that sometimes sticks closed. Remove the air box and see if a squirt of fuel sprays down the carb throat when you open the throttle. If it doesn't spray, you won't even have to remove the carb from the engine. blow a little compressed air through it and it might get unstuck.

Thanks for the replies. I have the carb off already. Is there a way to disassemble, test and service the accelerator pump? I'm actually not even sure where it is located on the carb...And is there a way for me to know if the carb needs a rebuild kit? I think the engines only have around 100-120 hrs on them..

You don't have accelerator pumps on the 717 engines.. :( Whoops..Yes it does...

look at part 62, if you move the lever you should hear/see a squirt of fuel from inside the carb.

Thanks for the reply. Excuse my newbness, but does the engine need to be running or just the "key" in the "ignition".
And say it doesn't squirt. Do I need a ned pump or can I overhaul the one I have with a carb kit?

As long as there is fuel in the carb, just pump the throttle arm. You should get a squirt from the nozzle.

If it doesnt' squirt... take the hoses off, and check them for a blockage. In one of the hoses... there is a check valve. You should be able to blow one way, but not the other.

As far as your comment about the engines only have 100 hrs.... it's irrelevant. It's a 16 year old boat, and things get plugged up. I say it all the time... a very low hour, older boat, or ski is worse than one that got used. (Things rust, rot, and dry out)

Apparently I've got a set of carbs. with an accelerator pump on my 96GSX, these are not original to the ski, the P.O. must have put them on, they're brand new. Works great I never have to choke, just squeeze the throttle a couple of times before I start when the engine is cold.
