Bought a used green and purple 94 xp today. Got a great deal on it guy just had a kid. I really didn't give it a thourough inspection like i normally do when buying cars. The owner said it had a electrical problem wasn't running well. He said it would run but then when throttled up it would sputter and die. after it happend a few times had it towed back across the lake. I read some where the other day their is a sollinoid or something that is only like 60$ that can usually cause that problem. any suggestions? My other question is with a new bike that i plan to keep what mataince should i peform and what should i inspect before i try to trouble shoot this problem. Battery is semi dead so i am going to pull it out and charge it. I know your not sposed to jump it from a running vehicle. I didnt have enough juice to start but it seemed to turn over decent no weird sounds. Is it ok to start these outta the water to trouble shoot? should vts work all the time or does it have to be running? I know its eletronic but not sure how its hooked up
one easy last question has any one used the e bay seat recover kits there like 50 bucks seemed like a good price.

any suggestions or advice is welcome.
thanks
-aaron

no, a solenoid will not cause it to spitt and sputter, only solenoid is for starting.
yes you can use your car to start, but DO NOT have car running
yes you can run out of the water, but only like 30-40 seconds any longer the engine will get hot, you will need to run on a garden hose to supply water to engine, but with hose water, engine should be running first before turning water on, if engine was to stall, shut the water off real quick!!!
seat covers are pretty easy to install if some simple procedures are followed
remove old cover and measure old staples for length, get some new ones made of stainless steel
fill any holes in foam base of seat with some old foam and contact adhesive
first set cover in sun to warm up and release wrinkles with old cover removed, make sure the foam is dry, not soaked with water,
get a electric stapler, a hand one will work but will take way too long!!
start at front and rear get cover centered and go at it , take your time and work out creases as you go
sort out your running issuses first before working on the pretty stuff.
good luck

it runs and bogs - do a search on that exact phrase and you will most likely find your answer..

i can see the answers already from others who check the board later

carbs - rip them down and clean them (especially the internal filters) , but dont even bother doing this if you have the grey lines and fnd evidence of deteriorating in the lines. until you replace the lines and then do the carbs

rectifier - search this and you will find how to check it - disconnect the red wire and run the ski - you will be running as long as the battery will since the battery will not be charged by the rectifier but if the ski runs good you will know where the problem lies,,, never go out alone

ok im planning charge battery and change plugs prob look at changing fuel lines any idea what size hoses i need? prob put a fuel filter in also. if all goes well ill take to local river sunday and see if i can figure out the problem to trouble shoot ill most likely try to see if rectfire.

wowie fuel line is black but clear where clamps to fuel filter i imagine the whole thing started off as clear..... gonna replace them can i use automotive black fuel line or is there a reason their clear? Im kinda thinking of ordering clear but mabye use black to trouble shoot. Figure try to order everything same time to save on shipping

ummmm i think your looking at your oil line and filter!!!
the oil is prolly black, and yes the line is clear all the way!!
doulbe check your self
mud

if you can seen the line and filter layng in the bottom of your hull that you are talking about i would agree with MUD - are there ANY grey lookng lines in the 'craft?

hmm that is possiable wow i feel like an idiot..... but i did how ever order a roll of fuel tubing at the local dealer should be in wed. so i will prob wait til that comes in and swap it out before going any further.

it was the oil lines lolz. I replaced oil and fuel filters, plugs, replace fuel lines, cleaned out fuel tank and found float magnet in bottom, i rewired trailer and put submersiable lights on it. Im waiting on my carb kit, float kit, anti rattle cone and fluid kit. Then im gonna do all that and get a new battery the old one is like 5 years old and wont hold a charge hopefully thats the problem. If that all dont do it im gonna investigate the rectifier and fuze box. Do better intake grates work alot better? seem like they would suck rocks up easier than stock i might get one but keep the stock grate so if i decide to go to the river i can can swap it back to be more careful
