I reacently bought a 09 rxt-is 255. Has 33 hours on it and i took it out yesturday and it wont go over like 7 or 8 miles an hour. It revs up all the way, just doesnt go. It shakes real bad when i rev it up. I need help, i have no idea whats going on. There is no engine lights, no warning lights, nothing. It is throwing a b2220 code which is right keypad error. But that was on when i bought it and ive put 4 hours on it since then with no problems. What is wrong with this thing

Hi and welcome to the SeaDoo forum.

It sounds like you need a new wear ring.

Z -welcome to the forum.

First find out what the error code means.

The wear ring is the plastic shroud in which the impeller spins. Check with a feeler gauge the clearance between the longest part of the blade and the shroud.....should be less than .040.

Report back your findings.

The way these machines work is the engine turns a shaft. That shaft goes into what is called the pump. Inside the pump is an impeller at the end of the shaft. It looks like a big fan blade. As that shaft turns it pushes water out the back through a smaller opening. That water being pushed out causes thrust which makes forward movement.

The impeller has to have a fairly snug fit in the pump. It makes force by being able to push all the water past the impeller efficiently. To make it fit snugly, there is a plastic ring that is around it. The ring is replaceable and designed to wear out. This is the wear ring. When it gets worn out, you lose thrust because the water isn't all being pushed out with force. Think of blowing through a straw.....put some holes in the straw and blow again, it is really effected by the holes. Same principle with the wear ring.

Look up inside the water intake on the bottom of the ski and you will see the impeller. You may just have something wedged or stuck around the shaft since you said it has a vibration.

Thats great for someone that has a slight idea of how these things work. You might as well speak latin to this person. Sometimes we need to break down the basic idea of how stuff works and explain it to the newbies.

is the wear ring a white very hard plastic material? because i have chips of that coming out when i put the hose to it and turn it on in the drivway. i have at least 4 to 5 small about the size of half of a penny sized white plastics chips coming out

also, the ski still has a warranty on it, will that be covered under warranty? or am i going to have to do that to save from a thousand dollar fix bill

Nope its not a warranty item. It is designed to wear out. When you run over sticks and trash and debris in the water, this is what happens.

Kinda....They do make a stainless steel ring. BUT most people don't recommend them in a standard recreation ski. For racing purposes it may be a good fit, but not for someone who is using the ski for normal use. That plastic is designed to wear out. When you suck in sticks, rocks and crap in lakes like cans and plastic bags, the ring will deteriorate. With a metal ring in there, there is nothing to wear, so the abuse is transferred to other parts like the impeller, shaft and engine. So it is best to stick with the plastic.

Take a look into the pump area (impeller) and see if anything is there.
Regardless you need a new wear ring...stay with black OEM (Seadoo brand).

You'll need a impeller removal tool. Study up on the link that Rfoster gave you in post #8.

mines white and when it went in there was only air gap
after one run you can feel wear but no cavitation
im thinking blade flex and some contact

Did you even look in the pump?

thanks everyone for the help, got everything torn apart, found a rock jammed in the impeller and the wear ring is trashed, just waiting on parts now. thanks for all the input everyone

you're riding in too shallow of water if you sucked up a rock. 3 feet minimum for idle and even deeper on fast take offs. if you need to go shallower, shut it off and walk it.

if you catch them quick, you can clear a rock or stick and not do any damage. but when you rev it up and go only go 7mph and vibrates like crazy, you are destroying your wear ring and impeller.
