hope the post isn't too big
while I am at it I would like to thank everyone for their help so far

Progress.....

I like slow deliberate progress. This way, taking your time means your paying very close attention to detail. It seems from what I see, you are not leaving any detail left un-turned.

The rewards are going to be vintage skis that look like they just came off the showroom floor yesterday!........Good luck.

I know a lot of people wouldn't put the effort into them that I am . I have a wife and a soon to be 5 year old daughter. So I don't need to go really fast. I know a new one is between 9-10 thousand dollars. I picked up both boats and the trailer for $250.00 with the intention of getting them running and cleaning them up as is. The further I got into them the more I found wrong...whoever worked on them over their lifetime was a total butcher and did a real hack job on everything that was done to them. Missing exhaust manifold nuts with gasket sealer gobbed up to stop leaks. amature tig welding on some of the aluminum parts just a real disaster. So I figure they are not like a quad or a dirtbike where if it breaks down you just push it back to the trailer. They need to be dependable and sea worthy. That was when I decided to go over EVERYTHING and make it right. So when I am all said and done I may have $2000-$2500 into them but everything will be redone including the trailer. Then I can maintain them correctly and we should get quite a few years of enjoyment out of them for pretty cheap. That is my thinking anyway. I am also the guy who pays off a car and drives it till the wheels fall off. I don't like making payments.

couple more pics and a small update on my progress.

Carbs are rebuilt. Hydroturf mat is in. $35.00 for a 40" x 62" piece. Decals are in. Seat cover and handlebar pad is all redone. Everything is ready for reassembly. Here are some pics of the exhaust parts all bead blasted and freshly painted. Just finishing up some minor fiberglass repairs and they will be ready for paint. Intakes all done and ready for install.

believe it when i see it...
good job, but, what about places you ripped on with that BANSHEE....yah buddy.

giv'n props to ur work, but also refer'n to your banshee...had a 99' with tons of coins thrown into it. Maybe had pix of where you ride that at...

My first SeaDoo was an 89 SP; you're going to have a lot of fun with those when they're done. They may not be the fastest things on the water; but you'll be able to do things on them that would cause riders of newer models to either be launched halfway across the lake or have their shoulders dislocated.

For example, that model can do a very tight 180 degree turn at full power without throwing you...unless your balance really, really sucks.

You can have fun like that because their hulls slide through the water instead of digging into a turn.

Dang, now I'm jealous.:(

I love that banshee!!!! It is so fast. Before I got married and had a kid I had a Yamaha R-6. That thing was pretty fast and was a wheelie machine. But....as I got married and more responsibilities, I sold the R-6 and got the harley. I can still ride but now I just cruise. But I have the banshee for my adrenilin rush. That thing does about 100MPH.....(well maybe closer to 98 mph) But it wil lift the front wheels in every gear. I love that power band. I just don't get to ride it that much between work and everything else.

wow the painted parts look nice. i should drop my gsx off at your house for a few weeks and see if that magically happens to mine!

Ignition housings

here we have the ignition housings....when I got them one had a total loss ignition. I wanted to go back to stock. Which meant scouring these forums and ebay for a few months to find the stock parts. Stator flywheel and magneto coil and cdi. Also I needed the ignition housing itself due to a butcher weld job on the one I already had. I tested all the parts (except the cdi) as directed by the shop manual.

still waiting on the engines

I dropped them off on March 19th. The guy told me I would have them back in a couple of weeks. Last I checked "a couple" was two. I already paid up front. They told me they have people drop stuff off and then not pick it up. So I paid them 95 % of the money up front. I called a couple of weeks ago and the guy is saying they are taking too much time and he isn't making any money. I am not the one who quoted me the price. I don't want to get too nasty ( I will never get them) but I want to get these things back together. Anyone in the NJ / PA I don't suggest going to East Coast cycles in bensalem.

what B.S.

WTF...TO F***IN BAD...his problem he quoted you the price, if they're a "repair" shop, them wtf is the problem. Bore'm out, rebuild crank, and call you to pick them up. THATS B.S. stud.

well Finally got one of them painted

It came out ok and I started putting a couple parts back on. Couple vents and the hood and a few decals before the misquitos started mealing on me.

seadoo warehouse.com. At the top of the page. I was looking for the correct year, but they are out of print. So I figured as long s I have one it didn't matter what year it was from. I just kept looking until I found one that wasn't listed as obsolete.

Look'n real good :hurray:

How did that B.S shop turn out? Everything worked out ok?

Be sure to keep postin pics as they come along, they will look great wehn finished:)

continue to keep us posted!......

I know this feeling!! I love riding my '93 a lot better than riding the big '97. The little SPX will spin on a dime. You can also pop the nose out of the water a lot higher than the GSX.

I actually got the big GSX to spin a few times the last time we were out (a few weeks ago). My right shoulder has been sore since and I finally got rid of the bruise on my leg from when it bucked me off the last time I tried to spin it. It didn't want to spin, so it threw me off. I hit the end of the right handle bar (in the crotch) in mid-air and landed some 20 feet from the GSX. Broke the sponson off, too. Shattered it really.

I think I'll stick with spinning the little SPX from now on!

I read this post and immediately remembered my old '72 RD350 I used to have. Bored out carbs, K&N filter mod, Accel car coils (hidden) w/ 8mm plug wires, Factory Brand expansion chambers, club-man drop bars, cafe-style seat, etc. Great little bike. I used to outrun CBR 600's all day long! And I still had the old front drum brake! Used to piss them off.

That little bike would loft the front wheel all the way through 4th gear!! Just got tired of my hands going numb!
