that bike had the banshee engine on it if I am not mistaken !!!!

Actually, the Banshee motors were the next succession in that line of engines. Monster power in such a small package.

I know how much fun I had on two wheels, I can imagine how much fun it is on four!!!

looks like they won't be in the water until next season. This shop is really raping me on the engines.:boxing_smiley: I wanted them ready for my vacation which I just got back from:confused:. I dropped them off March 19 he said two weeks. I figured I would have had them done by then. I just hope I can remember how to put them back together. I could do the work myself (and enjoy doing it) but he quoted my a price with a warranty that I could bareley buy the parts for. I guess too good to be true

The dude at the shop.forgot to put the lower oil tube on one of them. So now I have to take the rotary cover off so I can thread that tube on. Even though I am premixing I still need to lubricate the gear.

Need for speed... thanks for bringing this back up to the top. I was looking for it the other day.

I just did the mechanical on my 90 Si project, and I took it out to the water on Friday. It would have been fun if the water was warmer than 40 degrees. That was the first time I've ridden a first gen seadoo, and what some of the earlier posts said about sliding are true. At half throttle (about 30 mph) and even in a big, wide turn... I could feel the hull start to slide.

This week, I'm going to start my clean up. My Si isn't in horrible condition... so it's just going to be a fast buff and re-graphic.

Here she is right now:

That thing looks cherry! What is that stick poking up out of the water?

It's not bad from 10 feet away. Up close... the seat cover is ugly, the bar cover is cracking, the hull isn't white, and the graphics are all cracked. (and some are missing)

The yellow stick is marking the edge of the launch ramp, and where the concrete is. If you look just to the left... you will see a curb sticking up. The ramp is covered in mud right now since the water is still going down from the snow melt. (so it's hard to see from that angle)

Needforspeed,
You mentioned in one of your earlier posts that you redid the handle bar covers. What exactly did you do to them? The cover on my SPX is getting a little "sticky" and I'm wondering if there is anything that can be done to it.

On your pad... there is nothing you can do. The old plastic just starts to decay, and turns soft and sticky. On these early skis... the pad is a vinyl cover (like the seat), with a Zipper. They are relatively easy to deal with, since an upholstery shop can recreate it.

Speaking of that... NEEDFORSPEED....

If you need handlebar covers... I have a guy working on one for me right now. He should have a pattern in the next day or so. Also... don't quote me... but I think he's going to do them for $35 !!!! that's half of what they cost from Hydro Turf.

I'll keep you posted.

BTW... here's mine since I buffed the Gel, and made some new graphics. I'm not sure if I like them... but it's what I made so far.

I took the hoods and matched the color to a local upolstery shop. I brought the seats and the handlebar covers. ( they were ripped but he made new ones as I salved enough for measurements) so my seats and handle bar covers will match the hoods of the skis.

I think it looks great! I bought a big ass sheet of Hydro turf for like 35 bucks it is enough to put traction foot well pads on both hulls.

Last Year they had a special on purple diamond cut groove. $35.00 dollars for a 40" X 62" sheet. I guess they had a lot of it because now it is $69.00. But I read somewhere on this board that if you mention that you are a member of this forum that you get 10 or 15% discount on ordering.

Where did you get a big sheet of hydro turf that cheap?

ok, got the engine mounting plates bolted on along with the , starter, water jacket and exhaust manifold. we are moving along.

Looks Great !!! The guy that painted my one hull forgot to add the hardener :rant: It never dried. I had started putting some parts on it so I had to take them all back off. Then it never really dried. So we couldn't sand it and we had to tak a Lacquer thinner and scrub the whole hull down to get the paint off. Now it is painted again. I am waiting for the other one so I can drop in the engines and get to work. If I don't have them done by the end of May they won't get done till July as I am booked up every weekend in June. I really want to get all these parts and stuff off my basement floor and work bench. I have decals and hydroturf and new vinyls for two boats laying around just waitig to go back together. The guy that redid the engines is from a place called EastCoast Cycle Center..I do not recomend them as he took over a year to get my engines done!!!!! He told me a couple of weeks. As I am putting together one of them, I notice he didn't bead blast the one that well and just painted over alot of stuff. He didn't put the lower oil tube on so I had to take the rotary cover back off to screw that on. While I am taking the rotary cover off I see he used bolts from a white engine old bolts !!!!! They advertised that they would rebuild the crank trued and new seals and bearings and everything would be back to OEM specs or better. with a year warranty. Their price was 300.00 more than I could have done the top end for. So I went with them. Big mistake. The day I picked them up, there was no paperwork for the warranty no break in oil no nothing. I am praying that the whole engine was done. I know the top end was I can see that. He tells me a few months ago that the flywheel was Rubbing...I bring him another one. He tells me that one is rubbing also, so He says he can get one for 20.00 I said fine do it as I want to get these things back together it has been a year. He says"ok call me in a week". I call him in a week he tells me the guy sent the wrong flywheel call me back in two weeks. So when I finally pick them up a I see both the flywheels I left him are on my engines. I can tell because I painted one of them so I know it is the flywheel he told me was rubbing. Whatever I just hope after all this work I have done to these things the engines are fine. My thoughts were if I have everything back to new condition then if I maintain them propperly from day one then They would last for a long time. I am having doubts right now as I am not positive that the bottom ends were done correctly. Maybe they were but I have my suspicions.

that engine looks brandnew..is that a 650 or 550 engine?did you have them full rebuilt?

it is a yellow 587 I wanted it silver because I hate that ugly yellow color. I painted all the other parts the colors I wanted.....( whatever free paint I got from work) We had some high temp stuff at my last job. So I painted what I thought would be a decent color scheme for an engine nobody will see. I talked to the dude who rebuilt them and he is swearing everything is new (rebuiltcrank) on up with WSM parts so we shall see. 1 year warranty.

I did not do the pumps yet...I am going to wait and make sure they run. The engines have a full rebuild but I want to make sure I have spark. I didn't want the pumps out just yet as I saved and marked where all the shims go. so once the engine is bolted back in, it should be pretty close to being aligned. My thouht was if I had the pump AND the engine out at the same time the it would need the alignment tool which I don't have. Plus the pumps may be ok. If I get them done and running for this year then I can have the pumps done over the winter. The last time they were registered were 2006 and they just stopped running right. no pum issues. I undrestand from sitting I guess the seals and maybe the wear ring coul have gone bad. I will trailer test the first. I am also installing bilge pumps (just in case) I am more worried about the bearing seals more than anything else. If the pumps cavitate, then I will rebuild the pumps this year obviously. I am taking a wait and see approach on the pumps.
