We're lookin'. You just take too long making posts

The new graphics look nice.

The weather is getting warm... better step up the pace, and get those things on the water. I think I took 2 weeks doing my reconstruction.

Dr. Honda.....
I wish I could take two weeks. I don't have time to scratch my butt. Plus I had to do a full restore. These thing were in bad shape. Unlike yours which was in pretty decent shape to begin with. It is not like a quad where if it breaks down I can push it back to the truck. They have to be dependable and seaworthy. I am also hindered by waiting for the paint and my bone head decision on bringing the engines to a shop instead of doing them myself. The guy had them for a year!! was supposed to be two weeks. Anyway. I am hoping to get them done in the next couple weeks. I am waiting on the little rubber bumpers so I can put the engines back in. In the meantime I will finish the graphics, change out all the cooling water hoses and start figuring out the wiring. I am also mounting automatic electric bilge pumps. Putting that old rub rail back on kicked my behind. I never want to see another rivet...lol I was supposed to have them done last summer. I go on vacation the last week in july and I hope to have them done by then.

I have busy times, and slow times... but I have a bad habbit that when I start a project, I will fixate on it, and I have a hard time doing anything else until it's done. So... I have found that it's just best to get it done as fast as I can so I can work on other things.

Believe it or not I am usually the same way. But in this case I have been waiting on everybody else and that is what the most frustrating part is. On the other hand, I have had all my parts for at least a year and I paid for everything before my job closed it's doors and I had to take a job for less money. So even though it is taking a long time, where I don't have the cash to finish them....I really don't need any cash as I have paid for everything a year ago. Plus I have a 6 year old daughter who is in pagents and dance and birthdays and you get the idea... I also have a side business that usually takes all my weekends up not to mention cutting the lawn and all that other jazz. I am just looking forward to them being done so I get my basement shop cleaned up. I have had parts laying all over for the better part of a year and a half and the wife is really starting to complain about them.

final update ...I think I am finally done

Dunked both of them in the water today. Left them on the trailer and removed seats. Fired them up and had no leaks and the pissers were pissing. I tweaked the carbs and got them idiling smooth. I will be riding them tomorrow to break in the new engines. Here are the final pictures.

looks good. Post up some pics of the test ride.

Did you find a new rev-limiter?

Yes I did.....then found out I had been beating my head against the wall for the better part of 3 weeks because I had a bad kill switch button !!!!!!! It was weird, I would have spark then not have it and would change out a part and then lose it again. I am not taking that handlebar pad off again so I just eliminated the kill switch and will just use the lanyard for now...Maybe in the offseason I will change out the button.....gives me some time to find one.:willy_nilly::banghead:

Well? have they done a proper sea trial yet?.. How'd they run on the water?

They ran well. I was pretty pleased pumps are fine and shaft seals were good. So no leaks and they float and start. We rode them all day saturday. I tried to take them out Sunday an one was acting up...some kind of fuel delivery problem....but I will get it figured out...With the help of this forum.

very very well done. i also have 2 - 89 sp's that im SLOWLY redoing. ive got a big garage and winter is coming soon and these will be my winter projects along with my 95 xp im gonna restore. have one of my 89 sp's on the lake right now and its a blast. love how it slides through the water and cuts turns like a hot knife through buter. hopefully the end result of my restores will look as nice as yours do. kudos to your hard work and great looking rides.

well I haven't had muchtime to ride them this summer. I basically got the 90 broken in . The 89 (blue one) I am just so frustrated with it. I think I have narrowed it down to check valves in the fuel tank....So I have to get them ordered and then install them hopefully that will allow it to run correctly so I can winterize it. Then I can start off on the right foot next summer. I got so disgusted with all the work I did. I did exactly the same thing on both of them and one will run perfect and the other on only idles.....as soon as you give it gas it bogs...unless you goose the primer then it runs perfect..New carb nothing worked..It is missing a check valve so I think it ran good its maiden voyage because the fuel tank was full and had pressure from the gas fumes. But when the tank got low no pressure. I am goint to order the check valve and see what happens....this after checking rotary valve clearance, compression, you name it. Drove me crazy and I let them both sit since July.
